Product description

Review

This slim tome is an eminently sensible starting point for those embarking on a programme of repairs to a historic building ... A knowledgeable yet straightforward tone is taken throughout, which makes this a handy reference book to be used alongside the more detailed and extensive guidance produced by English Heritage and others. -- Alice Kershaw SPAB, The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, Autumn 2014

This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to know more about how to care for historic buildings & how they were built. The book gives a lot of valuable information & should probably be mandatory reading for anyone entrusted with the upkeep of any old building. Reading the book has helped to find the causes of problems in our local church, which is 150 years old. It also points the way forward in caring for both the interior & exterior of the building.
The only small reservation I have is with some statements on care that don't come with a reason or explanation.
Excellent book.
