And if none of that sounds stupid enough to you, how about the part where the indian hero of the story makes butt beads out of vine and berries and sticks them in the heroine's butt to spice things up. Because what woman doesn't want berries shoved in her butt? Yea...the author was that ridiculous.
Stella is traveling by wagon train, from Virginia to California, with her sister. At one of the stops, she ambles off to bathe in a stream that isn't too far the from camp. Standing Bear happens upon Stella as she lounges naked by the stream. Of course he decides to keep her, and the chase is on. Next thing you know he's got her tied to a tree and has his way with her.
Standing Bear is determined to keep Stella with him as his woman; he even renames her Pale As Moonlight. However, relations between Whites and Indians is such that he has to consider the potential consequences to his people, should he kidnap a White woman. When his companions join him and Stella, he is forced to let her go...for now. From there the story progresses to its conclusion, complete with HEA.
The love that develops between Stella and Standing Bear occurs almost instantaneously and is not very convincing, just as the series of events that unfold once Stella returns to the wagon train, are somewhat unrealistic. Moreover, the ending is too convenient. Nonetheless, if you are willing and able to suspend disbelief for a little while, this story makes for a thoroughly entertaining read. Happy reading!
Sally Hewitt is going by wagon train out west with her sister to start a new life. She just want to make it to her new home in one piece. Things change when Arapaho Renegade Standing Bear finds her and claims her by teaching her more about pleasure that she could have ever imagined.
She is a white woman who has been warned against consorting with the enemy heathens. They are just supposed to trade for goods but what is she to do now?
Standing Bear claims the beautiful woman he sees but now he most deal with the consequences of his choice. Will his obsession end up costing his tribe many lives? Will history be repeated? Could he really be attracted to the enemy after all they have done? Read on and find out.
I decided to re-read this book because I remember really enjoying it but couldn't remember why.
I'll have to say I'm glad I read it again. I think it is one of the better forbidden love historical erotic romance novellas (that's a mouthful) I've read. We start with Sally Hewitt taking a bath in a pond. Her sister wouldn't leave the wagon train because of her fear of Indians around those parts. Sally wasn't afraid. She figured she hear them if any were around anyway. So she's sitting on this rock kind of drying off in the sun trickling water over her breasts while unbeknownst to her she was being watched. Standing Bear sat silently on his horse mesmerized by the movements of the young woman. He had decided to take her as his captive. His Woman! She had only been kissed once by Gregory, back home, who then went running after her sister, the beautiful one in the family. Sally was the tomboy in the family, not beautiful. Standing Bear, hansom, lean muscled, rugged, Alpha, already had a name for her..."Pale As Moonlight".
Okay some people are going to say this book is cheesy, some are going to say they acted too immature, others are going to say the dialog isn't historically accurate. Few of us believe in love at first sight but this is romantic FICTION. One must suspend hard reality for a time when reading fiction don't you think? I say the story was sexy, hot, heartwarming, with an HEA.Oh yeah there's a couple of really good sex scenes in the story too. I loved the Epilog.
I enjoy the Mail Order bride series which is good clean romance, but after a while you need to break the ice every now and then...and this book does it.
