This was a replacement item, after using approx 10-12 times the unit is just one year old and yet again I am having the same problem. The light just does not recognise my arm or wrist when placed over the lighting mechanism to activate the unit to start the laser treatment. I have not changed my skin or body therefore there is no reason whatsover that this unit should yet again stop working! For the price I am very very disappointed with it. At a price of £250 you expect the item to last for more than one year and at least more than 10-12 times usage. I have not used the unit since July 17, therefore it is 8 months old really once it has stopped working. I would require a replacement!"Remington IPL6500 iLight Pro Hair Removal Device
Was not impressed with it even when it did work. Don't waste your money on it.
The instructions said to use only on freshly shaved hair... however, I got better results when I used it on hair 2-3mm in length.
The only negative is... that the machine overheats very quickly. And won’t work until it’s cooled down. It can be a bit frustrating and take a very long time to complete your legs.
Facial Hair has plagued me since I was about 15. I've trimmed, plucked, bleached, waxed and done almost everything imaginable to my upper lip and chin. I'm 29 years old and now a mother, so it seemed like a good time to look at a more permanent solution.
Seeing this on 'Deal of the Day' shortly after I'd looked in to salon based IPL seemed to me, a sign. I took the plunge and ordered the machine after looking it up on YouTube and reading a few reviews. The aim was to rid myself of the tache and beard problem, and if I can take off my armpit/leg/toe hair too then that was a bonus.
It arrived and I familiarised myself with the instructions - a lot. I can be a bit obsessive. That’s probably the reason my face has been left red raw sometimes from over plucking or poking out ingrown hairs. Every other day I would need to tweeze because the hair seems to grow astonishingly quickly, if my eyebrows grew as quick I'd be a very happy lady!
5 levels of hair sizzling power, each carefully tested on my leg and given 24hrs to see if there is any reaction. The next day all is fine, so I go ahead with the treatment.
The machine bleeps when you turn it on – what the instructions don't really make clear is that you need to 'scan' your skin in order for the thing to work. I picked this up from another review, it's a safety mechanism to ensure the technology is only used by those with a skin type suitable for this treatment.
The instructions suggest that you shave the intended hair before starting treatment, something which made me rather uncomfortable. Shave my face, are you mad? Despite almost destroying my skin with everything else I wasn't really prepared to have to shave my face. That almost seemed like a step too far. But, if that’s what it says I have to do then so be it. Face shaved.
Let me tell you, level 5 on your leg is very different to level 5 on your face. The most I could manage on my chin for the first round was level 2, the upper lip was level 1. It's a pain that is over pretty quickly, more of a sting than anything, but having to inflict that feeling on myself was hard. But I can do this every 2 weeks, easy peasy.
Only problem is, my hair grows too fast to wait a whole 2 weeks to have another treatment. I gave it 4 days and already I was sprouting hairs. I wasn't expecting this to be a quick fix, I'm in this for the long haul, but I don't want to be walking the streets like a lost member of ZZ Top.
Day 5 and I gave in, reread the instructions and it didn't seem to outline any terrible side effects if you do the treatments closer together. I might be an idiot, but if it doesn't categorically state that my face will fall off if I do another treatment too soon - I'm pretty much going to go for it. Lets face it (no pun intended), they aren't going to manufacture Salon strength equipment for the home market for under £200. It’s very unlikely, in my opinion, that I can do myself any serious damage using the lowest settings just less than 50% of the recommended time between treatments.
Face shaved. Treatment number 2 carried out. This time the pain was much more manageable.
I've now had 3 treatments and I can already see a reduction in the amount of hairs. I'm not having to do so much face maintenance, my skin isn’t as sore and I'm not digging out as many ingrown hairs any more. I've seen no side effects of the close treatment times, my face isn't visibly burnt or damaged, nor has it fallen off.
If you're looking for a miracle cure, keep looking. If you're after something you can use to keep your strays at bay then this is for you. I'm very pleased with my results so far and it's even better that I'm not throwing money at a Salon to do it for me.
The unit is compact enough to keep in a drawer and when its up and running it doesn't make a lot of noise other than the fan that keeps it cool. The heads are really easy to switch between face and body. The lead between the main unit and the handheld is plenty long enough to treat any area of your body. One thing is when I did my armpits my husband had to help as it's a little awkward doing your opposite pit to your writing hand and not blinding yourself!
No need for gel or sunglasses, and the bulb doesn't need replacing.
For £150, I'm very happy.
***UPDATE AFTER TWO MONTHS*** This machine is still doing really well. My upper lip hair is almost non-existent now. My chin hair is taking a bit more work but the quality of the skin in that area which was once red and sore is so much better now I'm not poking it with tweezers all the time. The real surprise though is my arm pits, they are really slow growing now. Same with my legs, I've done three treatments on my legs and the hair growth is slightly patchy. If I continued use on my legs I think I'd be really pleased but it seems like such hard work to line it all up and get ALL of your leg.
The amazon warehouse deal stated that the manual was missing and the package was damaged, did not state that one of the heads was missing too. That was not great customer service.
