Format: Paperback
I am not a Leeds RL fan but was a great admirer of John Holmes having witnessed him rip apart the defence of my team, Dewsbury, on far too many occasions for comfort. I loved this book. It is beautifully written, fascinating and poignant and made me wish I'd known him. It was also lovely to be reminded of a game, matches, players and times I'd half forgotten about; times when top flight Rugby League had far more players whose careers were built around their local teams. Like all the best sporting biographies this is not just a eulogy to genius, it is also absorbing social history and all the more satisfying for it.

It is also a story of a personal tragedy.I know I'll never live this down, but my eyes filled up during the final chapter.

Well i'll make it short and sweet but tisis a truly amazing heart warming book writtenby Johns brother and nephew even before chapter one the inside cover letter from milton and the story how the book came about say everything. As for the meat and bones of the book its all there I met him once, a cousin of my fathers so unassuming and humble all I can say to the two Phil's is you done him proud just like John did for the Blue and amber.
