Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Jag thought he had his revenge for the death of his husband. Til he who Jag thought dead resurfaces. Now he has to take a new spotter, after three years working alone and Sonar is not welcome. But the jaguar in Jag and the ocelot in Sonar work well together, and once this mission is over, they will see just how well.

Is this part of a series?? I can't find it saying so, but I'm left missing...something. Not really sure what it is I am missing, but I am left with that feeling.

Oh, don't get me wrong, this is a really good book, and I really enjoyed it, I just needed something to make it a five star read and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what!

Jag's heart was broken when his husband died at his side. And since then he has been alone in his misery. Sonar brings him out of that, and Jag can't work out why HE would be the one to do it. Feelings his heart thought it would never feel again, feeling his HEAD thought long dead, rise to the fore with Sonar at his side and the little cat weighing in at 60lbs against his 300lb plus really pushes his luck!

I loved the interaction between, not only the two men, but the two cats too. Very different in size and temperament, they feed off each other, and Sonar's cheeky side comes out best as his cat. As his human half, Sonar pushes Jag far beyond that which anyone else did, not even his husband, and Jag, while surprised at first, really likes that. I did too. I loved the marked differences that Jag made between Sonar and his dead husband.

OH! And I loved the twist that took. Did not work that one out fast enough, but I loved that.

This is, as far as I can see, the first I've read by this author.

I think this is a good book, one I enjoyed reading, but did feel there could have been a lot more going on. Jag is a shifter who's a sniper for a special task force, and has a reputation of being someone don't mess with, but he's dammed good at his job. He's also married and his human husband is his spotter. While the two of them are out in Afghanistan on the trail of Sandman, a cruel killer who cuts his victims up, his husband is shot and killed by Sandman, which makes Jag even more determined to find and take out Sandman. Much to Jags disgust, he's then given a new spotter named Sonar who takes no nonsense, standing up to Jag when he throws a hissy fit. Sonar is also a shifter and quite a character with his playful streak. The two men start off at loggerheads but Jag soon come to respect Sonar.

Revenge is the motivation behind this story or at least for Jag. Sonar is along for the ride.

Jag is hell bent on getting revenge for his husbands murder and thinks that it has been done or at least until it isn't. When Jag finds out that the person he believes was dead and is not Jag is determined to finish the job and Sonar is the spotter to help him complete this mission.

Jag never expected to fall in love again and definitely never in the midst of finding the revenge for his husbands death but that is what has happened. Sonar is the opposite of Jag. Jag is serious all the time and Sonar brings a light to his life that he has been missing.

The situation is a dangerous one and it may take a turn that neither man expected. One or both may not make it out alive.

I enjoyed reading this book and it has amazing potential. I really wish it had been a series because I think the story would have been best told in a least two separate books but nonetheless it was a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Review by Brandilyn 3 Mar. 2016

For original review, please visit the Prism Book Alliance® blog online.

I will admit I wasn’t expecting a whole lot going into my reading of Relentless by Cheyenne Meadows. My experience with the author’s work has been a mixed bag. I will say, however, that I was pleasantly surprised by Relentless. It had it’s scenes that could use improvement, but for the most part is kept me engrossed.

I liked Sonar and Jag. Sonar is playful but sharp and loyal. Exactly who Jag needs by his side. Jag is sober, grave, and focused. He is heartbroken. He is the best of what he does and needs someone he can trust implicitly at his side. Meadows does an admirable job proving to both the reader and Jag that Sonar is just the shifter to fill that role (and more) in Jag’s life.

So where did I see areas for improvement? First the prologue is little more than in info dump. It could have been an emotional hook into the story. Instead, we are told of past key events rather than shown them. Please don’t let this prologue scare you off, however. Meadows switches gears once she gets to present time.

Second, there were a number of phrases littered throughout the story that could be considered purple prose and pulled me from the story Meadows was intending to tell. Phrases such as

Come already, babe. Let me feel your ass dance on my cock as you do.

left me rolling my eyes more than enjoying the story. That may just be me, however. Your mileage may vary.

Finally, I think the book would have been better served as two novellas. There is a point the baddy, the reason for the Jag and Sonar to be together is dealt with by about the halfway point. Though from a relationship perspective, Jag and Sonar still have a long way to go, the overall pace of the story dragged from that point until almost the end.

Yes, it is an author’s choice to expand the story. I don’t disagree that Jag and Sonar needed longer to find their happily ever after. I don’t disagree that the work they did to that end was essential to that HEA. It just didn’t fit well with the first half of the story well.

If you take the story in two parts, however, it is a pleasant read. I would certainly enjoy visiting these two and their co-workers again.

4.0 out of 5 stars something missing.... 29 Feb. 2016

So, because of the missing...whatever it is...

4 solid stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars He’s not happy about this 1 Mar. 2016
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
For me, this is really two books or stories. First we have the revenge.

This is Jag and Mark’s story even though Mark, Jag’s husband, is killed in the beginning.

Jag makes it his mission for revenge to kill the man that killed Mark. And when that mission is complete, then we jump three years. We find that Jag for the last three years has been still working, but never really healed over the death. So when he finds out that the man responsible is still alive, he once again has a single focus. This time he picks up another spotter, Sonar. He’s not happy about this, because he doesn’t want to be responsible for the death of another innocent soul.

As Jag and Sonar travel around the world on a case to re-intact revenge against the man that killed Jag’s husband, they start developing a friendship/bond. One that Jag is not happy about but Sonar is thrilled about. In the end Jag gets his nemesis. And story number two starts

As Jag and Sonar make it back to the base and start the healing process, they also start the living process. In which they both find the happier side to each other. With silly antics from Sonar and protectiveness coming from Jag. Also we see Jag, thawing and healing.

We meet the other team members and see how well they all work together. The sass, and ribbing and yet the fight to the death to protect one another no matter what. All great for such a close team.
