Holly Webb is quickly becoming a favourite author of mine. Her books are such a delight to read. Reading The Reindeer Girl was like being wrapped up in a warm blanket and given a frothy cup of hot chocolate!

The characters are wonderfully written. Lotta is such a heart-warming character - her love for the calf is so strong, she risks her own life to save him. The reindeer quickly capture your heart as you follow them on their journey.

As an adult, I was surprised by how much I learnt about reindeer and Norway in this book. To the point that, I have bored people all week with my reindeer facts! If I'm learning so much, then kids are really going to gain a lot from this book.

From start to finish, this book is an truly magical! A perfect book to be read on Christmas Eve.

I bought this book because my husband is Sami and his family all work with reindeer in Norway. I enjoyed the story and thought it was well written with lots of accurate cultural details. I am also a primary teacher and this would be an excellent class novel to go along with studying the Arctic and how people live in different cultures.

This is a beautiful little story that mixes animal adventures with a touch of magic and a wondrous glimpse of a different culture. It’s perfect for animal-loving girls everywhere.

Lotta is an ordinary girl who is finally going to Norway to spend Christmas with her grandparents, and to meet her great-grandmother for the first time. Lotta has always been fascinated by her great-grandmother’s stories about reindeer herding as part of the Sami people, and Lotta’s very excited to meet real reindeer.

I loved how this story wove in the stories of Lotta’s family with her own time-travelling/fantasy adventure that sees her take part in her own reindeer herding trip, involving the care and rescue of a small calf. It’s also beautifully illustrated throughout, helping to show the distinctive clothing that Lotta encounters as well as her time with the reindeer themselves.

If you have an animal loving little girl in your life, then I thoroughly recommend this book. It’s quite short and the frequent illustrations make for an easy, manageable read from ages 7+. There’s also plenty for an adult to enjoy while reading along, especially during the Christmas season.

(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)

I was utterly entranced from start to finish.
It's a beautiful story about a girl named Lotta who has always loved talking to her grandmother over the phone and hearing her tell tales of when she used to be in a tribe of reindeer herders. One day, Lotta travels to Norway to visit her grandmother for the first time, and as she listens to her grandmother's tales she ends up being transported into them.
What's wonderful about this book is that it really brings the culture of Norway and of the tribe alive, and makes you feel a part of it. There are some lovely illustrations and it's written in such a way that both children and adults can enjoy. I'm 25 and I bought this book because the blurb intrigued me, and I'm now really keen to read some of the Author's other works.
Great present for Christmas, but I'm sitting here loving it in July.

This is a great book to look out for Christmas! It tells the story of Lotta who is visiting her grandmother and other members of her family in Norway. As part of the visit she is introduced to reindeer and so begins a magical adventure, something other children will easily relate to and imagine participating in with her as she travels by sledge through the mountains and helps search for a missing mother reindeer, a race against time to save her starving calf!

This is a delightful story, beautifully illustrated and ideal for the festive season. It gives lots of information about travelling with the reindeer herds but in a way that seems incidental - probably one of the best ways to learn! The characters are appealing, the story excellently structured with an excellent mix of wild animals and history in a thoroughly enjoyable story that I imagine children will revisit time and time again.

Thanks to the authors, publisher and NetGalley, too for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lovely. Just lovely. I read an Advanced a Reader Copy through Netgalley, and this became a must-buy for my primary school library. Holly Webb always delights her young readers and here she moves away from British pet animals to a young girls' ancestral home in Norway and reindeer herding. Lotta enjoys her first opportunity to go to Norway and meet her great grandmother and learn about the reindeer herding she had done as a child. Having seen and petted native reindeer and heard wonderful tales from her relatives, Lotta finds herself in a magical situation helping a mother reindeer and her kid try to find the strength to join the rest of the herd on their long change-of-season trek.
Beautifully told...
