Above all else work trousers need to be tough, these have survived slips, trips and falls on granite tors, being sawn by a stray bow saw and trekking through tropical rainforest.
Finally they have enough pockets to keep anyone happy, one for insect repellent, one for a torch, one for a compass and emergency whistle, one for a camera, one for a camcorder the list goes on.
Would definitely buy again and would certainly recommend.
Let's start from the beginning, I have an low waistline to leg length ratio, so had to shorten the waistline myself; but don't take this as a blemish to the trousers, this is a procedure I have done to almost all of the trousers in my wardrobe. The waistline itself is elasticated and has a total of ~10cm free play without losing tightness, which adds some much needed comfort when scrambling over limestone boulders. There is also some extra length in the hem (where your walking boots go) so that they can be lengthened if necessary.
The material is very hard wearing, and has survived scree runs, barbed wire, attack from thick thorny vegetation, river crossings, stray knives, stabbings from tent pegs, and the odd inquisitive sheep, without showing a scratch. Pen ink, however, will stain the lighter colour trousers - although, with repeated washing, the stain will fade. Mud and blood is no problem for the trousers, and washes out in a normal wash with normal washing powder. With repeated washing, the fabric will not bobble.
The legs are wide and roomy, meaning that they are not constrictive at all. Even when wet, the trousers are comfortable enough to walk extended distances (~16 km) in.
Pockets........... It's fair to say these trousers have "enough" pockets - they have 9 very generous pockets. About A5 (paper) size, they're definitely large enough for a point & shoot camera (in fact, each pocket could fit 2 cameras - 3 if you're good at Tetris).
Zips - I know it's an obscure review topic, but zips are the silent killer of most trousers.Read more ›
The pair of trousers under review are definately rock-bottom in terms of quality of finish with loose threads, gathered seams and zips which catch the surrounding fabric. They have not worn very well on holiday either. My wife is a qualified dressmaker and her professional opinion of this product is that it is the most shoddily produced and finished garment she has seen in her 40 year career!
Sad to say, I can no longer recommend anyone to purchase Regatta's Action Trousers for men, and I definately will not be buying further, preferring to pay extra for a better quality product.
I spent ages agonising over pricey Craghopper trousers before I came across these at half the price.
These are fabulously well made & look as good as the Craghoppers too.
There are loads of strong pockets, three of which are zipped. This really suits me as I use them for circular walks away from home & need somewhere safe & secure for my car keys. The material, zips and seam construction are superb quality.
The pockets are pretty unobtrusive & unless you stuff them with kit, you wouldn't know they were all there.
The waist is elasticated, but does have belt hooks should you need them.
They do tend to resist drizzle quite well initially, but do of course eventually succumb if out in the wet stuff all day. To this end, they are light enough for it not to spoil your day even when they are very set indeed. They also dry out completely within an hour or two of the rain stopping walking even when the sun doesn't emerge.
Mud also washes out of them easily.... Just give them a cold water rinse in the sink prior to chucking in the washing machine.
I just cannot criticise them at any level.
NB: These can be purchased for as little as a tennner looking at another famous (4 letter word) site.

The brand of trousers is excellent and has very good quality pockets. They are only ever so slightly smaller than described for size, however they do fit very well. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Amazon Customer
These are the best cargo trousers I have bought. They are much better than Craghoppers and Karrimor mainly because the stitching and fabric is better quality. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Monty
These trousers are to replace my beloved J170Rs (third pair). The quality seems just as good - pity about the reduced number of pockets though :-(. Read morePublished 2 months ago by John I. Pennock
