This book is an excellent and varied collection of Islamic art objects currently housed in the chief Museum of Islamic Art in the state of Qatar originally found in the many different lands that once comprised the trans-continental World of Islam. The accompanying encyclopedic text to the numerous high quality photographs would make this a desirable and unique contribution to any library containing or wanting to contain books on the subject of Islam and Islamic art. What makes this book so valuable is the fact that it illustrates objects (sometimes called the "minor arts [sic]") - manuscripts, textiles, ceramics, vessels, etc. - that are all too frequently overlooked in favor of architecture and architectural decoration. The illustrated art works also served as the source for the literary inspiration that constitutes the totality of "reflections" contained therein. This is a book that specialists and lovers of art in general can appreciate. It will open an entirely new world to those accustomed to looking primarily or solely at Western art.
