Looking forward to more from this author!
love this author always a good read
Rochelle Floros lost the father of her two young sons, the love of her life and the legendary guitar player of the rock band The Resistance, Cory. She now has to learn how to live again with a huge piece of her heart and life missing while raising her two boys as both mother and father.
Dex Caggiano, drummer for The Resistance, lost his best friend when Cory died but he finally had the chance to pursue the love of his life, Rochelle whom he has loved since she walked into a bar and took him from cover band to real rock band. He is a recovering addict with a whole parcel of baggage from his past.
The two struggle to be together but their own issues and fears haunt their every move. Their chemistry is flawless but with two young boys to raise and all the responsibilities that come with that Rochelle can’t afford to let her heart guide her.
I literally could not put this book down. I started it at 830 at night and didn’t go to sleep until I had read the very last page at 230 in the morning. From the first word until the last one S L Scott had me hooked. All the twists and turns and broken hearts that happen in this book kept me turning page after page, soaking in each moment with the characters. This book was amazing and I was not ready for it to end. Rochelle was a strong woman with deep love for her children, a gentle enough heart to see past the darkness of Dex’s past. Truly a heroine to look up to and root for throughout the book. Just amazing. The only thing I might have changed is the fact that when they were having rough times it seemed they pulled away from each other instead of standing with each other and working it out. Otherwise a brilliant book.

Rochelle and Dex are an unlikely couple, but a couple that work.. and work really well. Rochelle is a grieving widower who finds comfort in Dex, the reckless musician that everybody else has given up on. Including himself.
"There's a void that music can't fill, that other women won't fix, that drugs won't blur, and that time won't relent. My drug of choice these days is you."
Dex has kept his love for Rochelle a secret for years. He fell for her the first day he ever met her, 11 years prior. Unfortunately, for him she was taken and he had to bide his time, waiting to be the man that she needed. Honestly, by the time Rochelle was in a position to be dating again, I expected her to be a little easier on her man of choice.. I couldn't have been more wrong. There was a lot of back and forth from Rochelle, lots of 'should I? Or shouldn't I?' when it comes to her and Dex and yes, it is understandably so, but at times it was a little too much and I got bored of reading it. We all knew what she wanted and who she wanted, so a lot of it was unnecessary. It made me feel bad for Dex a lot of the time.
"You're the melody I can't capture and the notes I can't hit. But I can't fight your pull, always gravitating toward your world, to you."
The story itself wasn't anything totally out there, it wasn't really unique or unusual, but that's fine. It was an easy read and sometimes that's exactly what I need. Yes there was the odd emotional part, or something that would really make me laugh out loud, but on the whole I just found it easy to read.
"You're my constant. My north. The only compass worth following."
