When first-year high school student Miharu Ogawa gets a call from her parents, telling her to come straight home from school, she prepares herself for the worst. After all, the last time her quirky restaurateur parents told her to come straight home, she ended up as a contestant on a kiddy game show! But nothing she could ever have imagined could have prepared her for their "great news:" Miharu is getting married! How's a spirited and independent teenager who has never even kissed a boy supposed to deal with suddenly having a fiance she's never even met? And how will her feelings change when she finds out that there are other boys out there vying for her affection, and other girls ready and willing to take away the man she's not even sure she's ready for? With her family, friends (and enemies!) to cope with, will Miharu even have the time to find out if the handsome, devoted Kazuo Fujiwara is really the man she is meant to be with, the man connected to her by the red string of destiny?

The story follows the tale of Miharu Ogawa, a 16 year old girl just in her first year of high school. One day her parents call her telling her to come straight home from school... They have a surprise! Miharu steels herself; as the last time this happened she ended up on a kiddie game show, but nothing could have prepared her for the full impact... She's getting married! Miharu has never had a boyfriend, never been kissed and suddenly her parents drop this bombshell of an arranged marriage on their spirited daughter determined to be indepent and defy her parents! But that was until she met Kazuo Fujiwara...
Kazuo Fujiwara is a 19 year old student in his first year of University. His parents want him to marry some girl he's never met... (Miharu) and as always in his life, he's going to placidly accept it. It's fate. He's always had his whole life mapped out. And then a crying girl bumps into him, and they spend the day happily together, forgetting about everything, falling in love. Much to his surprise, he realises this spunky girl is his future fiance! Miharu of course only learns this a little later when she goes back to meet him a second time... Keeping secrets already?
Then comes the developments of other boys out there vying for her affection, and other girls trying to take away the man she's still not sure she's ready for! With the twisting and turning tale, you get the full varied impact of what it means to love through side-stories of the characters and of course the main couple. :) As Miharu tries to cope with her family, friends (and enemies!), will she have the time to find out if Kazuo Fujiwara is really who she's meant to be with? Or are they irrevocably connected by the red string of destiny... But then again everyone knows how easily string can be severed...

Although the art is quite good, the pacing is all over the place and the dialog is downright unbelievable. The author seems to pack more and more characters into the story until you can't remember who is who anymore.
Maybe once Miss Biggs has had more experience making comics this manga will improve, but I would recommend passing on Red String Volume 1.
