Firstly I have to say that I have read many books by this author and this one is nothing like any of the others I've read. I have been a fan for a while and would recommend anyone new to this author to look and read her others...but maybe give this one a miss..I'm not sure what she was thinking, but this did not work.
Unfortunately, to give away the core of why this went wrong, would be to give spoilers and I hate doing that. There should be a warning of this particular content though, by the author, because I know some readers are not fans of this particular type of story in paranormal m/m romance..sorry to be vague..but there was not much to rave about with this. If you want the spoiler...there is another reviewer who talks about this.
I was expecting this to be following on from the first book..'Blue Mountain' but there's no mention of them until near the end so this can be read as a stand alone. That said, I was disappointed that this seemed, not only to be completely separate, but the world building she does with this pack is just plain weird and there was nothing about it that I can render, in the first book.
I've read many paranormal books in this genre and there are some, such as THIRDS, by Charlie Cochet, and Wolfkin saga by sj Himes, that build complex and fascinating worlds. we get to know, not only the main characters but the secondary characters too. This book really didn't have anyone other than the main two. There was not enough 'showing' the reader the new pack and Wes meeting Jobe's parents. We don't get to experience anything other than misunderstandings and miscommunication between the two men and it got rather frustrating.

This is the second in the Pack Collection, I read both books today so they aren't very long. I enjoyed the story as it was going along and then all of a sudden, it was over!

I have read numerous books by this author, The Mates is one of my all time favourite series but for me unfortunately this falls well short of that series. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but it wasn't long enough for me.

Purchased this because I read Blue Mountain, which I enjoyed. A bit concerned at a review from Zoe, which wasn't encouraging, however decided to make up my own mind. For the price of this ebook I did expect the length to be longer, but that's not my biggest issue. We get a LOT of angst from Wesley on leaving the Purple Sky pack, and that got very wearisome in the end.. WE GET IT! Additionally , from the constant reference to the scar on the stomach it was obvious that would lead to something, and although not a huge surprise, it was different enough to be acceptable. There was little on the engagement between Wes and his pack, some solid interactions, apart from Ricky and his uncle, would have helped.

The Red River pack was certainly different, not something I have read before, so not unwelcome. However though there was a lot more description of pack and grounds in a whirlwind tour, and relationships - mother, friend, enforcers etc... and oh yes, Mother Earth, it was not fleshed out enough. There were some hooks that were thrown away, Ricky running away, the special kinds of omegas (don't want to give spoilers here), but West should have had a fit about this, etc...that were ignored.

All in all I wanted a lot more... and disappointingly, did not receive. Will check very carefully about her other books before purchasing. Zoe was spot on.
