Product Description

Diana Ross Red Hot Rhythm And Blues will be a 2 CD Deluxe Edition for the First Time Ever. Includes 13 Bonus Tracks The album includes the Top 15 US R&B and UK Top 40 hit, "Dirty Looks" And the ballad "It's Hard for Me to Say", produced by Luther Vandross. The cover photography was by Herb Ritts. Includes the Un-Released Track Sweet Soul Music. Liner Notes by Alex Henderson Re-Mastered from the Original Master Tapes by Sean Brennan, at Battery Studio s, New York. Red Hot Rhythm and Blues is the 1987 album by the legendary Diana Ross. The album made the charts in Germany, The Netherlands and Austria, as well as reaching the Top 20 in Sweden and Norway. The album was Ross's final album for RCA Records and included cover versions of several R&B classics, including The Bobbettes' "Mr. Lee", Jackie Ross' "Selfish One," Etta James' "Tell Mama", and The Drifters' "There Goes My Baby". Ross decided to retreat to safer territory, returning to her roots of Rhythm And Blues to mark a celebration in black music for the dynamic Red Hot Rhythm And Blues album. Listeners to this album were stunned to hear Ross' sensational, sexually-charged and charismatic performance that sound quite fitting when listening to those mildly racy lyrics. Never the less Red Hot Rhythm And Blues is ESSENTIAL to any Diana Ross fan and stands as something of an over-looked classic.

i remember when I first got this on its release, it took me a little time to get used to the whole album, then after a while the penny dropped and it was always being played, to me it was Diana almost back on form, just some well put together tracks and sung in only the way ross could do it, she looks hard and means business in the pics and stunning in some, but all in all its a great album I think and I could not get why it was not a smash hit for her, but that's life I suppose, it is full of just some stunning tracks and some stunning singing, and now to get all the mix's of the tracks just adds to this whole album, SHOCKWAVES, JUST LOVE ALL THE NEW MIX'S MR LEE' never been much a fan of that song at all but Diana gives it a new slant almost, DIRTY LOOKS is just a foot stomping great song, do go and get this just to hear all the new music if you have not heard them before..........................enjoy.............

This much-overlooked and underrated album gets a newly remastered edition from Funky Town Grooves with all the bonus tracks and remixes to make the perfect package. As with the other Diana Ross albums reissued by this label, the remastering and sound quality is fantastic.

Despite her megastar status, Diana Ross's success with albums and singles has been quite patchy if you look at chart placements. And while Red Hot Rhythm And Blues was another slick and polished affair from Ms Ross - and a very cohesive and enjoyable set - it was clearly hampered by the choice of singles.

With its nostalgic R&B stylings dominating, there is no immediate or contemporary pop song (though Stranger in Paradise is fairly pop-oriented, and not entirely dissimilar to her earlier hits Muscles and Mirror, Mirror).

But there are some real gems on here, some of which should have been singles. One of the standouts is Shine, a funky, densely-textured dance track penned by Simply Red's Mick Hucknall. The album version did attract the attention of DJs and get some club play and it's an absolute crime that this wasn't a single with proper extended dance mixes by a hot name of the time such as Jellybean, Pettibone, etc. Other standouts are some of the ballads - in particular the brittle beauty of the jazzy, yearning Summertime, and the more standard love songs Tell Me Again (which seems to have been planned as a single in some territories at least), and Cross My Heart. The last two are similar to the ballads she later delivered on the 1991 album Force Behind the Power

As the first single, we instead got the sinuous Dirty Looks with its wriggly rhythms and crystal-clear percussion.

It's really fine to have REMASTERED and EXPANDED Diana's 6 albums for RCA. On RED HOT, disc one, there's an extra track: SWEET SOUL MUSIC.
The sound is great.
My only remark is that 6 CDs come in a standard case. Although there are liner notes, it would have been perfect to release these 6 CDs for RCA in a digipack with original artwork.

While the contents of this album can't really be faulted even though it might not have been her biggest LP to date.
The term 'deluxe edition' is somewhat misleading as although I've handled these discs with 'kid-gloves' the boxes they come in are somewhat cheaper than regulation issue cd boxes.
So much so that the little lugs that hold the 'cover' in place have snapped off [while inside a steel carry-box ???] and some fell out and scored the cover of the cardboard 'digi-pack' cd that was next to it !
The front right side on some of these cheaper boxes [they feel 'different'] has disintegrated as well, I'm furious !
If you do buy any of these reissues you might wanna change the box pronto.

One of the best albums of her career and the best album she recorded at R.C.A. (Ironically also the last) she returned to Motown after this. There is a mixture of styles here but it works. There are 4 amazing ballads here - Summertime, Cross My Heart, Tell Me Again & the best track on the album It's Hard For Me To Say. Other standout tracks are Dirty Looks, Shine and Selfish One. That's not to say the other tracks are weak they are not this is a must buy for all Ross fans and any casual fans.

How I love this album, although it differs in running order from the European version. Great added tracks.
