This show is unlike anything I have seen on tv for a long while. Its strengths lie in the quiet moments of stillness in a shot, or the undercurrent of feeling between the characters, rather than big reveals or shouting matches. Daniel Holden has spent his entire adult life locked up for the rape and murder of his girlfriend, but is released when a key part of the forensic evidence used to convict him is called into doubt. The beautiful thing about the story is that it is left ambiguous as to whether he committed the crime, and ultimately this question is not at the crux of the show. The true story is how this crime effected a small southern town in the US, and in particular the two families on the different sides of the crime.

Aden Young plays Daniel to perfection, creating a quiet, thoughtful and troubled character the audience can't help but connect with. There really isn't a weak link in the cast, and it's refreshing in the sense that it lets the story and the characters breathe, rather than rushing the plot forward at the expense of the narrative. Don't be worried though, there is not one scene that is boring or overdrawn. It really was a pleasure watching this well-crafted drama, and it raises so many interesting questions about crime and its effect on the families of the victims and the accused, as well as the pressure created on high profile crimes to catch the killer, and whether this leads to mistakes with devastating consequences.

This is an interesting series that looks at the life of someone who has been wrongfully imprisoned and the prejudice of those who do not believe that justice has been served in releasing him. How do you restore very formative years that others used to establish themselves as adults? This is a very tragic story with lots of angst and tension.

It took a while to get going to build up the background of the story and to establish the characters. Once done, the story becomes very powerful. There are lots of veiled references to the harrowing violence to which he was subjected. It was as though I didn't want to be proved right because that would mean that the experiences of the protagonist were awful in the extreme!

The acting is top- notch and brings life and gravitas to this story. At times very claustrophobic, this made a very impressive piece of viewing!

Quite slow, but with intriguing characters, it is nevertheless quite watchable for the most part. Nothing much happens and the storyline doesn't really develop over the 6 (yes, only 6!) episodes.
Sadly, it is the main character, Daniel, who is the most frustrating to watch; doesn't say much, thousand yard stare etc. The rest of the cast are much more believable and do their best to keep your interest, just don't expect any action, or revelations (which this show really needs).
You don't get much sense of where the story is going from this series, and I suspect this may follow the, all to familiar, American TV box set tradition of spinning things out to make you keep buying the next season.
Haven't decided if I'm going to shell out for another 6 episodes of going nowhere, however stylish....

Yet another dark, moody U.S tv show that really hits the mark. For me the BBC should stop showing weak Scandie stuff on 3 and get into the undercurrent of U.S stuff. This is simply blinding stuff with a story as deep as the South in which its set. Take a chance and buy it, you won,t be dissapointed

A pretty decent TV series. Its a bit random however having German subtitles.(Does not say this on the DVD cover or or Amazon website). Guess you can switch off via the TV/ DVD remote.

Brilliant, but the subtitles and liner notes are all in Dutch, which should have been made clear - if you need subtitles and don't speak Dutch you've got a serious problem ....
