The Reclaiming (The Kalatheptoris Cycle Book 1) Kindle Edition
An epic tale on the smallest scale!
On the northern shores of the island colony of Glenisle lies the Turish port city of Tamendad, where business as usual includes keeping a watchful eye on the island’s native inhabitants to the south. When an enemy emerges from the darkness to threaten the city, an unlikely group of heroes must band together: a young nobleman, a penniless wanderer, an enigmatic ambassador from another land, a lord of the indigenous Dammaugh people, a squat blacksmith, a jewelry merchant, the Captain of the Guard, even the city’s own Governor. Together they must save something more precious than the world: their home.
S. Matthew McNally presents the opening installment of the Kalatheptoris Cycle, an epic tale of swordsmanship, romance, philosophy, political intrigue, friendship, betrayal and brotherhood. This collection combines all three parts in one epic presentation:
Part I: Unexpected Visitors
Part II: Desperate Measures
Part III: The Battle of Tamendad
Begin the journey, and see if Tamendad will stand, or fall to The Reclaiming.

McNally's Glenisle map and beautiful description brought the landscape to life in my mind. On top of that, he also has a Tolkien-like ability to use language/dialect, names, and implied history to give the feeling that this is just one story in an entire world in his mind. The characters step into the story with the sense that they have a history and a future, and you keep reading to learn what you can! I feel that if any of them knocked on my door, I'd recognize them immediately and I'd know just what bottle I'd pull out of my cellar to share with each of them.
If you're like me and enjoy plunging into Middle Earth, Narnia, or Alagaesia, then you owe it to yourself to explore Glenisle and the expanding world McNally is creating. I can't wait to see where the next story in the Cycle takes us!
I was able to visualize the setting and action without being overwhelmed by too many details. That is a common mistake with even best selling authors. I got to know the characters in the book by their actions, thoughts, or what other characters said or thought about them.
The book flowed smoothly without any of the dreaded lulls in the action. I am an avid reader and have no problem abandoning a book if I become bored with it. I was never bored.
I have read many Kindle books with spelling and grammar errors because the author did not take the time to revise and edit. This book does not contain those errors. I also enjoyed studying the well-detailed map.
I highly recommend The Reclaiming and plan to purchase other books in the series.
