It's not all fun and laughs, though. Alana is a stressed out bride, trying to put together the perfect wedding since the band is world famous. Gabi seems upset and is hiding something. And an unexpected surprise could ruin everything!
Reckless Weekend is another great book by Eden Summers. I've gotten very attached to the Reckless Beat characters, and I'm hoping to read more about Ryan and Sean in upcoming books. As this is the third book of the Reckless Beat series (or book 2.5), I strongly recommend reading books one and two before reading Reckless Weekend. It could probably be read and enjoyed as a standalone, but I think readers would get more out of it if they read the first two books beforehand.
I reviewed this book on behalf of A Book Lover's Emporium book blog.
Lots of humor in this Reckless Beat series novella. Mitch and Alana set up a girls vs. guys scavenger hunt. Alana's uptight mom playing "straight-man" to the Sin City antics of her daughter's friends adds a great touch. And there's plenty to react to: Mitch exploring his feminine side, Mason losing an eyebrow...and his cool...at a day spa. Leah's erotic encounter at a tattoo parlor. Sean getting plenty of personal service from a bright-eyed spa employee. I hope we see more of young Maree in the future. She's a great foil to the wild band and their fairly sophisticated girlfriends.
Along with the fun, there are some serious plot points. Ryan and band manager Leah hit rough waters. I'm trying to minimize spoilers, but I think he completely overreacts when decides to end their friendship over something so stupid. His reaction is way over the top for the situation. Gabi and Blake's problem is more realistic and lends a sad note to the revelries. It's also great to see Alana, who's normally so calm and gracious, overcome by wedding stress.
RECKLESS WEEKEND is a rocky ride in all the right ways.
Alana and Mitch are getting married and the fight is on. A bachelor/bachelorette race has been drawn where each team must complete a set of challenges and the winner picks the honeymoon destination. What ensues is a night no one will ever forget with a heartbreaking revelation for one couple and fist fight where members of the band will require make up to hide the bruises, cuts and drunken debauchery following a ‘reckless night’ of infinite practical jokes among friends.
Eden Summers has written a storyline about family and friendship; love and heartbreak; forgiveness and letting go. We watch as one couple begins a new life together while another holds on to what could have been.
Reckless Weekend is a storyline that is emotional-not only for the characters but for the reader as well. We are pulled into one couple’s painful loss; a friendship that continues to shatter bit by bit; and the potential break up of a family that is held together by more in common than most families by blood.
I was gifted a copy
Wow! Where to begin? Though the story tentatively circles around Alana and Mitchell it is so much more than that. It’s about people who have created a family not by blood, but by true love and caring for one another. It’s about being there when you are needed even when the person who needs you doesn’t see it that way. It’s about trust, about understanding and about the real true kind of love (with a little of the hot stuff mixed in there as well.)
Ms, Summers has taken us into the world of Reckless a rock band made of the kind of family everyone wants to be a part of. I look forward to where Reckless will take us next! Definitely something to pick up!
