This comic horror, love story opens as Koldo [Diego Martín] and Clara [Leticia Dolera] plan, then attend, their wedding at a large country house. When one of the guest ’turns’ due to the virus, mayhem breaks out as everyone runs for their lives. In the slaughter, Koldo and Clara are separated, but each vows to find the other in the chaos surrounding them.
This departs from the first two films and in reality is a stand alone movie [although it plays a part in REC4]. The same plot techniques are in use, viewed through the lens camera work, quarantined by unknown forces outside, murdered, mutilated and terrorised by ‘infected’ guests, but with no knowledge of what the reasoning is.
The disc opens to five very long trailers and then enters main menu offering play, chapters, set up [Spanish 5.1 or 2.0, English subtitles on/off] and extras [preparing a bloody wedding, out-takes, deleted scenes]. One of the deleted scenes actually explains what happens to one group of survivors –something that’s a bit of a loose end when it comes to REC4.
REC3 has a somewhat slow start [especially with the trailers –lose a *], concentrating on the wedding and guests but it does set a relaxed atmosphere which highlights the panic and mayhem when it strikes. Much of the filming is normal camera work and is more a gore fest zombie affair, as the fast moving ‘inflicted’ now mostly shamble zombie–like as though the previous scripts have been forgotten and is somewhat contradictory [lose a *] However it is fast paced and very gory once the action kicks in and becomes an over the top madcap rom-com as the two try to find one another.

I loved REC1 and 2, but REC 3 shouldn't have been made for the following reasons:
- The incredibly long (and boring) lead-up before you even reach the movie title screen seems to take half the movie length
- Removing the hand-held camera footage (which was the whole point of "REC" i.e. RECord) and making it a standard movie was incredibly stupid. They may as well have just called it another title and not used "REC" at all.
- Making the movie into an almost Evil Dead style (and not in a good way) stupid horror/comedy again lost the suspense of the two previous movies.
They couldn't even decide if the zombies/demons should shamble or be running super-zombies so they had them do both for no reason whatsoever!
Congratulations on screwing up the series :(

Well, I am a fan of the REC series. I absolutely love the first of the series and the second one. This one just disappointed me in some ways. I was expecting the old style of handheld cams in the first and second one but this one just lasts for like 20 minutes then it change to cinematic style. The other downside thing is they made some of the scenes look funny. Please! I want the old handheld camera style back please! However, I am still giving three stars for the cinematic style. Not bad but please don't put any comedy scenes in between. That will spoil the mood. Love it but would like to hate it.

I've literally just switched off Rec 3: Genesis. I didn't see how it ended as I couldn't put up with another second. Basically they've changed a previously successful "serious" horror series into a cheesy horror with comical elements and OTT cinematic style and dramatic music rather than the realistic found footage style of the first two films. I simply can't believe what I've just witnessed and if anyone had told me what to expect I would have laughed it off as some sort of wind up. People camping it up in suits of armour while zombies are on the loose nearby - yeah good one, like they'd put junk like that in a serious horror franchise...

REC, particularly the original, provided a fresh injection of quality to the zombie horror sub-genre. This film makes a mockery of that, and it's unfortunate that the fans who bought the first two films are the ones who, like myself, are suckered into buying this without really knowing what they're letting themselves in for. I purposefully avoided knowing too much about Rec 3 to avoid spoilers so this has come as a massive shock to me.

If you loved REC and / or REC 2 then JUST AVOID THIS MOVIE!!!

I really enjoyed the first two of the REC series, so I was really looking forward to the third release......and waited I should of. It was awful and I wanted to turn it off, but I was hoping it would get better......but it did not. I will never get this wasted time back, so please do not waste yours.

It was with great trepidation that I bought this item after reading the reviews for REC3. This is not really a film I would classify in the REC series as it bears little resemblance to the first two which are both 5 star films, hence the 4 star review. However, as a stand alone film this movie is good fun. Yes, it gets farcical at times but I actually found this to be a refreshing change. I can understand why some die hard REC fans find this film insulting but if you go in with the mindset that it's going to be really bad you just might be surprised. All in all a little gem of a film for under a tenner.
