Thats not to say our good guys dont do their fair share of things that are shocking, This is one series of books, where a chapter or two had me asking WTF had i just read, and i had to re read it to take it in, it was that good, but then you also realise that sometimes good people have to do bad things for the greater good. Im gutted this series has finished, but i can console myself that i can at anytime dip back into the books and re read them. Take a massive bow Mr Ford, that was just a bit cracking. If your searching for a series and characters, good and bad, that will stay with you long after you've read each book, you wont go far wrong reading these.
Devon Ford is a genius. I've read more books in the post-apocalyptic genre than I care to count, but the After it Happened series is the one I remember most fondly.
'Rebellion' continues the series with all the characteristics I've loved from the start - it's believable, heart-wrenching, unpredictable. It's funny what a difference it makes having brand names and cultural references that are relevant now - it makes the story so much more imaginable. Ford isn't afraid to pursue multiple storylines in one novel, and this may be the first time I've come across this style and genuinely cared about the characters followed in each. Dan is a hero, and so is Steve. And Leah. And Lexi. and Jan. And Mitch. The list goes on.
There's plenty of action, but also time to explore the main characters more, fleshing them out in a way that makes them seem much more real. I love the humour too.
I can't recommend 'Rebellion' and the rest of the 'After It Happened' series enough to do it all justice. Definitely worth reading.
For the TV series/Film Mr Ford, I still think Sean Bean is Chris, Dominic Cooper is Dan and Nick Frost is Neil. My Niece is Leah but she's a nightmare and would drive you insane!
So thank you for the ride!
