My problem with this book is not the story or the writing style. It's the fact that this is only part of the story, and I mean that in the "half a book" rather than a "first in the series" sense.

As a reader I'm not stupid, I know the difference between a sequel and a deliberate ending of an edition halfway through so you have to buy the rest of the book or in some cases, the next few chapters. Ms Hart goes further than most, you need to buy up to 6 or 7 books to find out where your main characters end up.

This isn't the "Grand Tour de Force" of say GRR MARTIN'S Song of Fire and Ice. In my opinion it's a Cynical, Untruthful, Deliberate Scam! And I will continue to 'out' them wherever I find them so that you have the chance to decide whether to go ahead and get involved in the story knowing the true facts, rather than being left in the lurch when you get to the 'end'.

As always Callie's latest work had me gripped from the beginning and kept hold of me until the very end. I loved the fact that she explored and explained Rebel and Sophia's/Alexis', story and background and how it tied in with and started to explain their actions in the previous series. The writing style and quality never fails and I would be very surprised if it ever does.
The reason for the 4.5 stars is that their story, as with the Sloan and Zeth's story in the Blood and Roses series, appears to be being spread out over several books. I don't know how long it will be between release dates and it frustrates me no end as it literally makes me lose the plot. It's a compliment to the author that I want the rest of their story NOW...not over the space of a few books and several months. I don't like that it's done as a marketing ploy to make you buy the next book. As I've said before I wish these talented authors had faith in their work...the consistent quality is enough to keep us coming back for more. I would be happy to pay for 1 more expensive book due to the unquestionable quality...just give it to me in one hit!
Still loving her work and it won't put me off, but please please give me a beginning, a middle and an end for each couple in a single book instead of leaving me hanging...it's like buying a book to find that half of the pages have been ripped out...a real bug bear for me.

Rebel is the first in a new series, Dead Man’s Ink, by Callie Hart. If you read Owned: An Alpha Anthology last year then you had a sneaky peek at it like I did and have been intrigued for more.

I was really impressed with the world building skills of this author, it’s refreshing to have an MC book that is not just ‘Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am’ in the first couple of chapters but takes time to build a scene, introduces us to characters and gives us chance to meet, greet and get to know them all while weaving this complex world around us with so many different dynamics. There is a lot going on in this first book that I am sure will come into play huge in the following ones, it’s got a nice, different spin to it from many others and held my attention with the chemistry between the two leads even though there is only one sex scene with them right at the end (although it was a so hot panties not required while reading scene!).

Rebel starts with a simple wrong time, wrong place for Alexis, she witnesses an event that triggers a war. Having tried to help and been caught in the crossfire Rebel feels he needs to do right by her and so our story starts. Alexis is torn from everything she has ever known, kidnapped, abused and ultimately sold, when she ends up in Rebel’s hands understandably she has trust issues. The slow burn chemistry between these two was a pleasure to read, Rebel is a swoon worthy alpha with a dirty, dirty mouth and Alexis/Sophia (it will make sense!) had a sassiness to her that shone, but make no mistake this is so much more than just a boy/girl story, it’s politics, vengeance, war, love, betrayal, intrigue, lies and deceit.
The web Callie Hart has woven caught and held me so that when I finished Rebel my kindle almost got thrown at the wall in frustration that it could have ended at that point, and has left me desperate for the next book so job well done Ms Hart!

Callie Hart has turned her writing hand to the MC world with Rebel and The Widow Makers of New Mexico. This is book 1 of the Dead Man's Ink series and Rebel is a character who made his first appearance in Burn in the Blood and Roses series. This dark haired, hot, dirty mouthed, bad ass biker peaked my interest then and I'm ecstatic we get a whole new series involving him!!
You need not to have read the aforementioned series by Callie Hart to enjoy this standalone series, but I guarantee you'll want to after reading Rebel!!

On a bleak, snowy evening in Seattle Alexis Romera 21, unknowingly witnesses and becomes embroiled in Cartel, Widow Makers MC and Rebel's affairs whilst walking along a path when she makes one kind gesture. She sees things she should never have seen and gets kidnapped to avoid leaving any loose ends behind by her captors. Her only salvation is the fake ID she has and the parting words of a rugged biker who witnesses the events that occurred. With her identity a secret her family is safe from her dangerous, corrupt and violent captors and she becomes Sophia Marne, her fake ID namesake, willing to do whatever it takes to survive as her life will never be the same again.

"Things like this don't happen. This is the stuff of nightmares and movies, and horror stories... It was sure as hell never supposed to happen to me."

Rebel 'saves' Sophia but he is a man with a plan. Sophia can serve a purpose if she complies to his demands. As President of an MC his word is law but Sophia is not one to follow orders easily. She challenges, questions and defies him and in turn opens his eyes to what he wants from his life.
