Realms Of War, edited by Philip Athans, is an anthology of short stories for The Twilight War Trilogy, by Paul S. Kemp, set in the Forgotten Realms universe. However, despite this books claims, not all of the short stories actually relate to The Twilight War. Rather the stories focus on war throughout the ages that has helped to shape the Forgotten Realms world, with only a few stories actually directly linked to The Twilight War.
The stories themselves are well written and quite varied in content. The range of authors who have contributed is also very good and this book features stories by established Forgotten Realms authors such as Richard Lee Byers, Forgotten Realms legends such as R.A. Salvatore and relative newcomers such as Mark Sehestedt. As such the short stories vary in quality but all are of a decent standard and readers should find new authors of interest that they may previously not have been fimiliar with. The shortness of the stories also allow this anthology to be accessible to younger readers who may struggle to get through a whole novel or for a reader who is looking for a series of short distractions. However, I do have one note of caution and that is a number of these short stories feature some of the authors previous characters and to get the most of these stories it would help to be familiar with some of the authors' earlier works.
Overall, this is a good anthology that should appeal to anyone who has enjoyed The Twilight War Trilogy, by Paul S. Kemp, and to most Forgotten Realms fan in general.
