"Roy of the Rovers was the comic strip hero whose stirring deeds and storylines rang so true they often blurred the lines between reality and fantasy. Now the story behind the cartoon superhero who played centre forward for Melchester Rovers has been told by the man who knew him best. Author Barrie Tomlinson brought Roy of the Rovers to life and edited his adventures on the pages of Tiger." Daily Mirror
"One of the best books about British comics I've ever read. It's nice to see a book about comics written by someone who actually worked on those comics. This is the real deal. A unique insight into the lives of two men - Roy Race and Barrie Tomlinson. A visual feast and would make a terrific Christmas present for a comics fan." --DownTheTubes.net
Barrie Tomlinson has done a fantastic job in relating his part in the Roy of the Rovers story. Long may Roy continue to be part of football's fabric!" --The League Magazine
"This is absolutely fantastic. It's not often I've looked forward to reading a book football as much as this one. Barrie Tomlinson is not only a gentleman but also a football cultural icon. It was a genuine privilege to hear his stories." --Hyder Jawad, editor, Soccerama
"Tomlinson [worked] his own comic revolution when he took Roy of the Rovers and launched him in his own title, making Roy a national institution. The book details how he used his PR talents to bring Roy to the attention of the national media, getting celebrities writing for Roy of the Rovers and even starring in the strip! An entertaining read." --Hibernia Comics
