This is the second book in the Sarah Milton Chronicles. For my review of the first book go to: http://samaustinwriter.wordpress.com/2014/05/28/book-review-wednesday-reading-the-dead-5-stars/

What I like most about these books is that they're funny. Not just 'small smile' funny, there were definitely a few 'laugh out loud' funny moments to be had. Most of the humor comes from Anna who does what every ghost should do when they're stuck on the sidelines watch people's lives. Make sarcastic comments and pull the occasional prank.

To be fair, she does try to help out her best friend and detective Sarah Milton as well. With each book there's a big mystery that Sarah and her team have to solve that ends up veering into the supernatural. And since Sarah and her ghost friend are the only ones who believe in the supernatural, they end up doing most of the heavy lifting.

There's a real buffy humor vibe to these books, so if you liked that show then you should end up enjoying these books. The characters are awesome. Some do seem a bit stereotypical, but if they're stereotypes, then they're nice ones.

Here's the blurb:

The second volume of the Reading The Dead - The Sarah Milton Chronicles series.

A frantic phone call from the wife of her former partner plunges LAPD police detective Sarah Milton and her teenage poltergeist sidekick, Anna Nigma, into a deadly mystery involving one of their most dangerous foes, the convicted "Fancy Dress Killer," Harry Sands. The Violent Crimes Unit is in the hotseat to find the copycat serial killer responsible for a recent string of murders plaguing the city, leaving Sarah scrambling to understand the bizarre, otherworldly aspects to this latest murder spree.

I wondered whether i'd like this book as much as I did the prequel but I loved it and never wanted it to end!

Sarah Milton is a detective with the Violent Crimes unit in the L.A. P.D. and its noticeably intuitive and perceptive if not a little odd to her co-workers but all are used to it since her behaviour changed when she got shot. What her friends don't realise is when she came back from her temporary death she could see ghosts including her childhood "imaginary friend" Ana.

While having Ana being her eyes and ears has been handy it's also opened her eyes to how many crimes have had a Paranormal hand
When murders reflecting those of a killer she locked away start happening she starts to believe there's more than just copycat behind them but being in the P.D. she has to have proof.

Honestly couldn't find fault with this story and was shocked to see it was 400 pages and it went by in a blur of suspence and good old fashioned writing that kept me captivated.
The characters blend and react perfectly with some like Chelsea bringing a fun twist.
Sarah and Ryans relationship had me on tender hooks and I genuinly felt the emotions Sarah did, especially jealousy (I still think BITCH when I think of the Apartment scene).

I read the first Sarah Milton story a good while ago and proceeded to download the second installment. It took quite a while to get around to reading but it was worth it. Once again JB Cameron has written a gritty but humurous detective novel with a more than supernatural theme running throughout. This sort of thing really appeals to me, and despite coming from the UK, there was no problem with the US settings and dialogues. The story moves at a cracking pace and as another reviewer commented, it is a 400 page novel that flies by. I am so looking forward to a third book as the ending has left it wide open for the storyline to continue. Once again, Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great, gripping read 18 July 2014
By Janet E. Hecht - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I received a free copy of this book from the Goodreads Group, Lovers of Paranormal, in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the series that follows Sarah Milton, a police detective in Los Angeles, and her sidekick, Anna Enigma, who is a twelve or thirteen year old ghost.

This story finds Sarah revisiting a previous case, ”The Fancy Dress Killer”, Harry Sands. There is now a copycat killer out there who is targeting people involved in the capture and conviction of Harry Sands. Sarah is juggling trying to clear her ex-partner of murder charges, working the case, dealing with relationships, and living with Anna. This case is complex and there is involvement from the spiritual world that affects the physical world. Only by combining information from both of these planes can the mystery be solved and the killer captured. Anna explores places that Sarah cannot, and Sarah has the ability to see and communicate with ghosts. This is how the mystery can be solved and yet again, Sarah is challenged with explaining what she knows to her coworkers.

J. B. Cameron is an incredibly talented storyteller. There is a lot of depth to all of the characters and they are all very well developed. There was so much going on in this book. However, it was so well written and the transitions were so well done that it was easy to connect everything that happened. The murder mystery was riveting and the intersection of the two worlds (paranormal and physical) was really dynamic and fascinating. The ending was quite a surprise and is going to lead to some future challenges for our two leading ladies.

As a thriller/suspense – awesome; as a paranormal mystery – awesome.

Things that make this such a great book (and series) include: the depth, humor, intense plot, the characters along with their flaws, the relationship between Sarah and Anna, and the tension and suspense. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Paranormal Detective Series 21 Jun. 2014

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The second book in this series is just as good as the first. I am impressed with Cameron's ability to construct such elaborate novels.

Sarah Milton is a detective in the Violent Crimes Unit and they have an impressive team that is dedicated to solving the heinous murders that take place in LA. Sarah is unique as she has some supernatural help in the form of a ghost, Anna.

Anna, adds mystery, wittiness and a great deal of fun to the storyline. I enjoyed her jokes, humor and her ultimate willingness to help. She cares deeply for Sarah and although they may grate the others nerves at times, they do make a great duo when it comes to solving crimes.

We see Sarah's character grow in this book and even gain more insight into her past. Her budding relationship with Ryan is intriguing and will keep you engaged.

The mystery that Cameron lays out in this novel makes you unable to put the book down. I had to read it to the end and was deeply disappointed when it did end.

This story has the right amount of suspense, action, mystery, horror and light witted humor. This is by far one of the best supernatural detective series that I have read. I love the fact that Sarah is highly intelligent and perfectly capable of solving crimes on her own. The fact that she has Anna, who is invisible and can walk through walls is just an added bonus.

I love the fact that all the characters are realistic and their interaction is so natural, it isn't forced at all. Cameron does a great job with character development and relationships between them.

I look forward to seeing more of Sarah in the future to see her career continue to progress and to see her relationships continue to develop.
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent second book! 1 July 2014

I was provided a free copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Reading The Dead: Fidelis In Aeternum #2 by J.B. Cameron: From the mind that brought you the first Reading the Dead comes a continuation of an exhilarating story. This paranormal mystery picks up right where the first ends but you get to see how each character has gotten to where they are today. Working along side Sarah Milton as ghost from her past cases come back to haunt her and her loved ones. They all though the Fancy Dress Killer was locked away and that the streets were safe, boy were they wrong. When a victim shows up with eerie similarities to those that lost their lives at the hands of Harry Sands, Sarah and her team start to scramble. Who could be committing these terrible crimes? Who’s their next target? I suggest you pick up this series and find out.

I loved this book! It has the same feel and drive as the first book and you find out so much more about those you’ve already come to embrace. See where Sarah, Mason and Chelsea came from and how they got to the VCU. I have to say, I’m also happy that Marcie Yang made another appearance (at the end). She is just so funny! Oh, and I can’t adequately express how much you will hate Harry Sands and his accomplices. All in all, I’d say everything J.B.Cameron set out to convey has been accomplished. You got it all… action, adventure, chases, tons of humor, a little romance thrown in for good measure; and an excellent mystery.

Reading The Dead: Fidelius in Aeternum (The Sarah Milton Chronicles, #2)

I received a free copy, through LoP, in exchange for a review.

Now on to the next, or so Sarah Milton thought. She never really thought she would be revisiting the “Fancy Dress Killer” Harry Sands, since he was convicted and locked away. But now, copycat killings are starting to surface, leaving Sarah and Anna, her ghost partner in crime, trying to figure out are they truly just copycat killings or is there something more to it, something otherwordly? This investigation along with another one, where her former partner and mentor is being accused of murdering a woman, (another police officer) has Sarah right on the edge of sanity. A lot of surprises and old memories are going to be brought to the surface and hopefully Sarah and Anna can get to the bottom of the mystery, before more dead bodies show up.

'Sands wrapped his weapon in both hands, before looping it around the police officer's slender throat. He lifted her head by her windpipe, savoring her distressed gagging as she struggled for oxygen. Her body twisted and flopped under him as she attempted to free her hands and escape, but she couldn't move. Her attacker pinned her to the ground. Sands pulled her leash tighter, relishing the feeling of her life fading under his hands.
“Don't fight it, officer,” he breathed into her ear as he tugged her head further off the ground. “Death is the natural conclusion to everything. Give into it. Welcome its dark embrace as you would a lover.”

GREAT second book! I was so hooked, from the very beginning. Loved the pace of the story line and also all of the flashbacks. It explained what had happened between Sands' and Sarah's characters and how everything comes full circle. Highly recommend!
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Detective Story!!!!!! 24 Mar. 2014

First and foremost let me begin by stating that I received a free copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review (LOP R2R). Thank you

I have really enjoyed this story; Anna Enigma is my favorite character. She is spunky and funny, I would love her as a friend. I was a bit disappointed with Sarah’s actions at the end of the book. I would have loved to give this book a 5 star review however some of my previous questions were not answered and some additional ones were added. I don’t expect all questions to be answered in the first or second book of a series but I was hoping for some hint that they will be answered at some point. At least give me something to let me know that you will answer them at some point.

*******************************Spoiler Alert: *******************************
Some of my questions from first book:
WHO was the German man and what the heck did he have to do with Sarah?
What is this “Darkness” that is coming to get her?
Where is the Serpent with the one eye (I don’t think is the sigil)?
Did Sarah’s mom see/hear ghost?
WHAT IS ANNA?

Some of my new questions from second book:
Who is Sebastian Challenger?
What the heck is this black bible?
Is Sebastian Challenger the German Man from the first book?
