Bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas, arrived on time, had a flick through and thought it was very informative and interesting - for me at least as I am a photography novice. He is much more experienced and only read the first page before realising it was a bit too novice for his liking and hasn't opened it since. If buying for someone that knows a lots about cameras/photography it is probably not best, however for a novice it is very informative with lots of nice pictures! I have now stolen the book off him and am learning for myself!

Spot on - genuinely feel inspired and more knowledgeable about taking photographs of people.

I bought this book because I have enjoyed other books in this series by Henry Carroll; this book is no exception.
Each page of the book has a photograph of a person taken by a world class photographer followed by a one page straight to the point explanation of how to take a similar photograph yourself.
The transfer of knowledge on each page makes you want to experiment and develop your own photography skills; it really is like having someone showing you the ropes!
There are a handful of 'Technical Tangents' in the book which give a little more theory but not too much that you become overwhelmed - the balance is spot.
After reading this book, I genuinely feel inspired and more knowledgeable about photographing people.

Really enjoyed this book. Yes, it's a little short but that's one of the things I liked about it. It's short as there's no waffle. Think about this, try this idea, this works like this etc. Definitely worth the money I paid.

These Henry Carroll books are the best there is for photography. If anyone is starting off in photography and wants to learn how to take photographs of people them this is the book for you. They are also small enough to carry with you in your photography bag as well. I know take great photographs of people thanks to this book.

bought as a Christmas gift and it was well received. I flicked through it myself when wrapping it and I thought it would be one I would like myself. Not at all a techie guide but, as with the series of books, offers examples and guidance on picture making.

Bought this as a birthday present for a friend who is a keen amateur photographer. He was absolutely delighted with it. The size makes it easy to carry around when you out & about taking photos. He like the fact that you can dip in & out of the book for tips and that you don’t have to sit down & read it through from cover to cover.

Excellent tuition using examples from great photographers. It isn’t a book for a timid photographer though. Many of the great shots require an “in your face” intrusive technique which may not be acceptable to photographers more used to the more usual posed shots. But as the title implies, if you want to take great photos ....!!
