I DO NOT PLAY MOBO GAMES AT ALL
So I've owned the razer naga 2012, razer naga chroma (2017) and the corsair scimitar.
This mouse FOR ME is the best out of all 3
Main Positives over the mice I've used
1) It has a top tier optical sensor, rather than the (IMO) poor laser sensor that comes with the razer naga/chroma. The standard razer nagas served me well but in all honesty the laser sensors sucked especially if i wanted to play games that required high precision
2) The razer software, is FAR FAR FAR superior, than the cue software that corsair offers. I had nothing but issues with the corsair software, such as the buttons on the side repeating themselves over and over again, when CPU usage was high (70-80%+) and also sometimes, the cue software just NOT working at all, thus disabling all the buttons on the side of the mouse, forcing me to close to the software and use the on board memory which you SHOULDN'T have to do. Corsair support was useless in solving this issue. If you're an avid mmo player you know that CPU usage can get a little high in populated areas. I own the 3570k @4.5ghz
When the software was closed, and the on board memory was being used, the mouse worked fine
I understand that not everybody has had this specific issue with the cue software but even without the buttons repeating themselves issue I'd still take the razer software over corsairs any day of the week.
3) You can change the side panel, to fit your needs (to a certain extent). Personally, I only use the side panel with the 12 buttons, due to my muscle memory knows where all 12 are without me needing to think about it, and i don't see the benefit of having less buttons on the side, due to the fact that it doesn't reduce the weight of the mouse enough to warrant the change.
Here's the razer trinities major FLAW
If you read number 3 of my positives i put "to a certain extent" and here's why
The mouse is sold as a jack of all trades, but in reality it's an MMO/MOBA mouse, that can be used as an fps mouse thanks to it's great sensor. This is a very heavy mouse, and for fps games you tend to want a light mouse, that you can flick/swipe with ease at any moment and due to the fact they didn't add the option to remove/add weights, to the mouse your pretty much stuck with a heavy mouse whatever game you're playing, this could be a deal breaker, for players looking to buy a mouse for mainly FPS games, but some mmo/moba games on the side.
If they had the option to change the weight of the mouse, on top of changing the side panel of the mouse I'd say it would be the best all round mouse on the market without a shadow of a doubt
So should you buy the trinity?
1) If you're primarily an MMO/MOBA player but like playing some fps shooters on the side this mouse is perfect for you, IFcan afford the added cost.
2) If you're primarily an FPS player and play some mmo/moba games on the side this mouse MAY not be best option for you assuming you like lighter mice while you play FPS games.
Don't forget to thumbs up if my review helped you :)
First of all, you have to use Synapse 3 for it to work.. Which has got to be one of the worst pieces of software written, it's buggy, it's not intuitive, it's mostly useless.
I created multiple profiles for varying games (as you can't port them across from synapse 2) and when switching games, the software is supposed to detect the game and switch profiles... Does it?.. Nope!!!
Synapse 3 decides itself which profile it wants as the default, (regardless of whether you've picked a profile to be the default profile) and sticks with it.
If you want to change profiles, it throws a small fit, hangs for ages and maybe then allows you to change the profile, if it decides it's going to crash on you though, you have to restart synapse, (fantastic if you're in the middle of a game because it hasn't changed when it should do) if you restart synapse, don't expect it to always automatically detect that you have a naga-trinity (or any other device for that matter) sometimes you'll have to unplug and plug your device in again multiple times before synapse will recognise it (again, great if you're in the middle of a game of Dota or overwatch etc...) then when it does recognise it, don't expect it to let you switch profiles unless you quit your game and restart it.
I honestly can't believe how bad this software is, it's abysmal!! STAY AWAY, DO NOT BUY IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY
Then there's the mouse ergonomics, it's smoothly slippery in your hand and the buttons on the side press very very easily, meaning you can't easily stabalise the mouse in your hand without accidently pressing the buttons on the side.. (12 button pad)
Would I buy this mouse again?.. No!!!!....!!!
Would I recommend it? NO WAY!
EDIT(11/01/2020): ok, so thought I’d update this review after using the mouse for a bit and having paid so much for it, and having had various software updates, essentially I still dislike Synapse 3, you can’t use the mouse without it, though the useablity of the software has improved.
One of my main bug-bears is that whenever you change programs, although it does now change automatically if you set it up, it also splashes at least one (or two of you’ve got a lighting profile and a button profile) massive profile indicators up in the bottom corner of the screen which is annoying as hell if you’re switching apps as it takes up screen space right where the windows system tray is, and you can’t stop them from coming up like you could with synapse 2.
Other than that, I’ve managed to get it working as expected, pretty sure they’ve lost a customer here though!
Too heavy
Plastic too smooth
Some of the 12 side buttons are at a bad angle and hard to press
The 2 main buttons need too much weight to push in and don't springback fast enough
Scroll wheel was too much to the left instead of half between the left and right mouse buttons
So far loving the changeable side-plates. i'm currently leaning towards the circular 7 button plate for general usage/gaming and saving the 12 button grid only for games where i need that many keyboard shortcuts.
The 12 button grid is fine for 99% of games (as attested by the older nagas i've used) but having a place to rest your thumb, so not having to lift the mouse with your thumb resting on a button, makes a nice difference.
The software seems much improved from the Synapse v2.x version my old Nagas used. Only real issue is that you cannot import/export the profiles from the old version to the new, so i'm having to re-create my user profiles for the buttons from scratch. On the plus side, the software versions are *completely* separate, so you can have both open at once making the process easier...
For people wondering on this mouse vs the naga epic chroma (wireless) given my experience with my old naga epic: get this Trinity version instead. On my old epic the wireless wasn't brilliant and the battery struggled to last a days usage, so for most of it's ~6years of life i used it wired anyway. This version is cheaper, lighter and you get the changeable side plates.
