1- Small secondary symbols (&*>!"£$ ...) on the keys are not backlit (photo attached): This might not look a big issue; but if you are used to keyboard back lighting, it can be quite a big issue, especially in darker environment.
2- Coil whine: I still haven't figured out when it happens. It seems random or maybe when the actual fan wants to turn off. Actual fan noise is not annoying as it is the normal sign of CPU being under heavy load. But the coil whine can be annoying/worrying. The only good thing is that it takes almost short, 5-6 seconds.
Because of above two issues I MAY return the laptop, request a refund and go for Dell XPS 13 touchscreen which has identical configs, price, and full-key backlit, although I'm not sure about its coil whine problem.
Reason to mark it down: the high resolution display can be a problem on some games because features come out too small. Next time, I'd probably go for lower resolution at this size. The Razer uses its fans more than some other makes. Unfortunately, the first one I ordered had a problem with a fan making a clicking noise and after a few days the power supply blew so now using a replacement. (Amazon, as usual, were good about the exchange.) Possibly bad luck but others online have had both problems. Hope this one stays the course.
Update: I didn't! After a couple of weeks this one failed too - this time it just won't start. A couple of searches online show this is a known problem. There is a design defect in the power circuits so it overheats and blows. Apparently this affects other Razer laptops too.
Had it 15 minutes, BSOD - Bad_Pool_Caller. Happened once, didn't happen for 2 days, suddenly stuck in an endless loop of BSOD / restart. Turned it off, 1 day later it wasn't happening.
7 days without trouble it starts again. Emailed Razer... their answer... Lets reset it. Re-install windows. Only problem is, when you do that you LOOSE - Killer Drivers, Killer control panel, all hardware driver updates for the GPU, all driver updates for the high end components on the board.
Basically it's a barebones system. It's pre-configured to be good. Wiping it takes away half the reason to buy it.
Razer help was useless. Total waste of time. Wanted a video of it happening to prove it. I've uploaded to my dropbox if anyone want's to see it let me know.
Razer help escalated me to TEIR 1 - Asked to be called before I returned it and wrote a review. Ignored - See below, 3 days ago they emailed me telling me to basically deal with Amazon.
I refused to do the wipe because I wanted a new laptop, their answer was, not surprisingly... RETURN IT TO AMAZON. Despite the fact in BOLD RED writing in the cover of their warranty manual it states clearly DO NOT RETURN TO THE RETAILER.
Buy anything but this. ANYTHING.
I will never buy another razer product.
If you dont 'need' a dedicated GPU system, then I would say this is the best laptop on the market under $2k.
+ Extremely high build quality. Strong and light.
+ Very fast (highly recommend i7 8th gen quad core cpu)
+ Although no dedicated graphics, the 16gig ram and 8th gen i7 intel graphics can handle light to moderate gaming pretty well.
- No dedicated GPU. But then, what 13' laptop does? (except the new surfacebook).
- Runs hot. This is expected from a quad core ultra thin machine. The all metal body helps transfer heat away from the components (right into your legs).
- Lack of upgradable RAM. I would imagine this is another factor in how it can be so portable, but this is my only legitimate concern. In 2017, using up 16gig of ram with an ultrabook probably means you just need a bigger system but what will be the 'standard' RAM in 2020?
