- I liked a lot the white LEDs. It's a beautiful keyboard! It definitely has the looks!
- Detachable cable.
Cons:
- Poor quality. Everything is made of plastic except from the back plate.
- Key caps are thin and they are made of hard plastic making a thin sound. Not even close to thick PBTs.
- Switches are not very consistent. The amount of pressure you have to put is almost different every time. You can feel cheap plastic sliding on cheap plastic.
PS:
It's not a silent keyboard, it's just a mechanical keyboard with non-clicky switches.
I think it's highly overpriced. A fair price would be around 30-40 pounds.
A keyboard can be something you spend a lot of time every day, I would suggest try before you buy as it may or may not fulfill your needs.
- Stable key caps, almost no play, no binding when pressing keys on the side,
- Pleasant typewriter-like clack sound when bottoming out keys,
- Good quality construction, easy to clean.
- Very nice lighting, although only primary key functions are highlighted.
Negatives:
- Switches have a fair amount of friction in them and sound scratchy (plastic-on-plastic) when pressed softly,
- Tactile bump is high up and not very pleasant - feels like extra friction to overcome. Again, mostly an issue when typing softly,
- The plate produces an audible and unpleasant metallic reverb after clack, especially for Enter and Space keys,
- I don't particularly like the look of the empty space under the keys, would prefer a conventional design and taller key caps,
- It is not clear how to disassemble the board to replace switches (or if replacement switches are even available) or to grease them up,
- One switch (F6 key) is making a wire-on-wire scratching sound. It still works well but it doesn't give me much confidence in quality control.
- Backspace key is slightly rotated clockwise, ditto.
- The keyboard is only silent if you avoid bottoming out the keys, the problem is, this is the most enjoyable part of this keyboard,
- O-rings are in my opinion pointless, they make the clack sound dull and not much quieter, and make the key presses feel spongy.
I really enjoy the keyboard because I like to type fairly strongly - think of a mechanical typewriter. The sound it makes is very pleasant (excluding metallic reverb) but the keyboard is definitely not quiet when used this way. I wouldn't recommend this keyboard to people who like to type softly without bottoming out the keys.
This little keyboard is Razer's first 10 key less UK keyboard with their Orange switches, which are supposed to retain the tactile feel of the green switches, but reduce the noise. (Greens are indeed pretty noisy, and Logitech blue's are like using an old fashioned typewitter, such is their volume). First impressions are solid - they really are quieter and they fortunately lack the twitchy, overly sensitive feel of the yellows. There's no click though, just a slight but of resistance when pressed which I guess is in place of the click. It's much less satisfying, but that's the price of less noise I guess. It's worth pointing out that this is still in no way a quiet keyboard, I don't believe that's possible with mechanical keyboards. Razer also supply some O Rings with this which dampen the bottoming out noise a little, but they also make the already somewhat mediocre feel much worse, as they feel quite spongy. This isn't a problem I have with Razer green switches, as the satisfying mechanical click remains even with O Rings fitted.
This should make for a solid typing experience, but sadly the many corners Razer cut with this extended to sacrificing the two step height adjust. Instead there's just one, and it's very shallow. If you like flat keyboards this won't bother you, but I personally prefer more of a rake. Razer have also removed most of the casing, leaving the keycaps exposed. This looks frankly bizarre, unfinished, and incredibly fragile. This is certainly not something to carry around with you, as the exposed keycaps can be snagged and pulled out quite easily. They're easy to pull off just moving the keyboard around your desk. There's also a somewhat sharp metal ridge around the base of the keyboard which makes moving it even worse.. There's also no multi coloured teenager lighting effects, which for me is a good thing. You get a white backlight and that's it, and the only control you get over the light is brightness and a choice between static and a "breath" effect.
For gaming, this is still a Razer so of course, it works superbly. No lag, every key press registered perfectly and it feels nice and snappy.
Despite the oddly unfinished casing the base feels fairly solid with not too much flex and there's the usual thick braided Razer USB cable supplied. I will ding them for the packaging though, which contains some completely pointless plastic. This has to stop, use recycled and recyclable materials for all packaging. No excuses.
Overall this is a solid effort, and for the £60 this currently goes for, a steal. I would prefer Razer to have supplied an actual case for it, and to have more rake adjust, but this is still a fairly good keyboard which successfully treads the line between gaming and typing. C+ from me. Decent, but much room for improvement.
Update: After a couple of months of use the USB cable broke. Although the cable itself is braided the terminal at the end which plugs into the keyboard is very flimsy and I suspect will break again before long. Even my brand new replacement cable already feels badly made. More corner cutting from Razer.
