Greatest keyboard ever; noisy and clunky but god damn the software is awful.

There's not too much you can say about a keyboard... the resistance on these keys are non-existant. It feels like my reaction times on online FPS games have improved. Between this and a configured Logitech G9X, my online performance has gone from average, to great. Was bad equipment a limiting factor?

I also have slightly bent baby fingers, which is a bit of a weird condition. The actualtion force on the keys is dramatically less, meaning I can crouch (ctrl) using my baby fingers far more easily, Before, it was uncomfortable to do so.

The keyboard itself looks far more classy in real life. The macros are a good feature but I never use them. But yes, a mechanical keyboard is a bit like a SSD - once you use one, you'll not want to go back!

However, as these keyboards use "blue" Cherry MX switches, the keyboard is quite loud. Bit like typing on a typewriter. It'll be no concern to the user, but may be annoying to others, especially if you're typing in close proximity.

You'll see other gaming keyboards, cheaper and more expensive, but if they're not mechanical, don't bother! Would recommend this to anyone, gamer or not.

Bought this keyboard to go with my newly-built computer. Installation was very simple: plug in the USB cable and download drivers from the Razer website. Have owned it for a week and I am very impressed.

The main point of this keyboard is the mechanical Cherry MX Blue switches. Press a key and you hear a click about 2mm down, this is the point where the signal gets sent to the computer and you see your character on the screen. With other keyboards the signal is sent only when the key is pressed all the way down. After some practice I'm pressing the keys only to the point where I hear and feel this click. My word count has increased from about 65 words a minute to 80, and I can definitely see the potential for much faster, easier typing with further practice. Yes, it is louder than regular keyboards, but not ridiculously so, and the noise is actually very satisfying.

Other features are the macro keys to the far left of the layout, the program in which you create them is clear and easy to use. Others have found that they've been pressing them accidentally when aiming for Caps Lock, Shift etc. but that was not my experience. LEDs are subtle, the blue Razer logo on the front is a nice touch. Gaming mode is, unsurprisingly, useful for gaming - it disables the ever annoying Windows key. Styling looks great, the shiny black surface does attract fingerprints but it shouldn't be a problem - I've found in my normal typing position I do not even touch the surface so wiping with a duster occasionally should keep it clean. There are matte surfaces on the sides so you can lift and move the keyboard without getting fingerprints all over it.

All in all, this is a great product and one of the cheapest mechanical keyboards you can buy.

I got the keyboard a few days ago and i love it! Its really responsive and the keys have just the right amount of space between them so i dont press 2 keys at a time by accident.
Being able to program lots of profiles helps a lot because i like to have certain keys disabled for certain games and Razer synapse 2.0 is a brilliant software.
The keyboard looks really nice and sounds even better. Some people say that its loud, but when im gaming i dont hear it through my headphones and i havent had any noise complaints from others in the house and ive been gaming at night when everyone else was sleeping. The media keys are awesome and being able to change profile without having to exit games is also very neat. Personally i think that its one of the best keyboard for the price and the only thing that i wish that it had is back lighting, but that is available from the Ultimate version, which in my opinion is not worth the extra 40 quid.

This is a solid 5 star product IMO!

Game on!!!

Hi,
I spent a lot of time prior to purchase researching the 'right' mechanical keyboard. If you want more guidance than what Amazon or these reviews consist of, I'd highly recommend slotting 30min out of your day to check out videos of products on YouTube. There is an abundance of comparative videos shot in HD that are straight to the point, etc.

In any case, my only other experience with mechnanical keyboards directly is the QPenn DT-35. This happens to be the most popular however that's globally; its major in South Korea. In the West, its more diverse. However, at this price point most people I see posting on this are considering this keyboard, another Razer, or Steelseries.

Good points of the Black Widow:

-LEDs: If you like your keyboard to 'glow', this will do that for you. It adds a certain flare and novelty in the dark.
-Typing Speed Increase: There's no doubt that you will notice a difference between this and a lower-end, comes-with-PC keyboard. Previously, I had used a Microsoft Internet Keyboard and a Logitech MX Wireless; both I loved and was able to get about 65-70wpm on. With this Razer, I was consistently able to achieve 80-85. I type a lot as a software analyst so this change was most appreciated.
-Macro Features: This is designed for gamers who play Massive Multiplayer Online games. However, for the casual prospective gamer be aware that most other games do NOT support this feature.
-Wires & Durability: I had no doubt that this keyboard would last me a length of time. In addition, the USB cable is gold-plated which feels especially sturdy. And the cord is of a different material which tends to not tangle.
