I think the book contains around 80 recipes; I'm working my way through trying out different recipes and utterly loving the process. The layout is simple and there are handy conversion and ingredient replacement tips (some of the ingredients are quite specialist, but Fraser certainly recognises this fact). Definitely my favourite recipe book on my kitchen shelf!
What I love about Raw Freedom is that it caters to every level of ability AND occasion. It provides easy recipes for a quick ‘nosh up’ meal after cycling back from the gym to a ‘fancy pants’ desert to wow your guests at a dinner party….and yes I am referring to the Mint Chocolate Torte!.....(and the Rasberry Cheese Cake and the Rasberrry Cardamom Chia pudding, and, and, and…)
I always found the idea of Raw Food quite uninspiring but what becomes apparent from reading Saskia Fraser’s book Raw Freedom, is that I have been thinking of it in such a limiting way. This book outsmarts me with its 80 strong varied recipes and disarms me with its light and easy approach, not to mention a bright and beautiful photo for every recipe!
I appreciated how on page 37 Saskia provides substitute ideas for flavors; particularly useful for someone like me who is naturally prone to creative flare over good old fashion recipe following.
If you have even the smallest interest in Raw food or are a devout Raw foodie follower, then this book should not be missing from your bookshelf!
Frankly, I wasn't that keen on eating large amounts of salad and cold food, particularly with winter coming on, but needs must. Looked at several other raw food cook books, but wasn't inspired, One thing I *did* learn, though, was that cook books do not work well on kindle.
In the end, I determined to look on YouTube at various author's videos, in order to discover (a) what the food tasted like and (b) how much of a faff the recipes are to make. As a result, I tried out some author's recipes - with mixed results, as you can imagine.
What I wanted was good tasting food, not too many ingredients ... and preferably no need for a dehydrator.
Saskia's recipes were an immediate hit - interesting ingredients, not difficult to get hold of - and with a non judgemental attitude that can be hard to find in the raw food area.
So far I've tried a few of her recipes with not one of them turning out inedible. One or two I wouldn't bother with again ... but determined to have her healthy chocolate spread in my cupboard at all times. The spiralized pasta dishes are tasty, pesto is yum and even the nut "cheese" is satisfying and adaptable.
I particularly like the pictures for every recipe so that you know what you're aiming at.
A good investment for those transitioning to a higher raw diet - with no annoying "misspellings"!
