i love this book - I love that harriet's not pretty and Gideon's not handsome, I love that harriet's a practical sraightford soul while Gideon's the tortured reclusive romantic one. Whilst studying a cave looking for fossils Harriet discovers "Ill gotten gains, Loot, Booty" she immedietly summons the local landowner to deal with it, Gideon unused to such a summons falls pray to curiosity and arrives, in the course of investigations Harriet and gideon become trapped in the cave overnight by the tide, thus becomming compromised. And so begins the Taming of the Beast(Gideon obviously, not Harriet). This book is witty totally engaging and by far one of Amanda's better offering's, my copy is now ragged and missing it's front cover through repeated readings

When I first got this book I read it straight through three times in a row, and by now I must have read it at least 20 times and and its like a an old friend, even though I know whats going to happen it still seems fresh when I read it again...which can only be a credit to Miss Quicks writing...Gideon makes a very good tortured hero, and I like the fact that he not a handsome adonis like I like the fact that Harriet's.. well plain..Read this one it's a great way to spend a rainy day...

When I came across the stories of Amanda Quick, I was a goner. I lapped up everyone of them, but for some reason I always put off buying this one. However, after I had read all the others, I felt I had no choice and went ahead anyway. I can't believe how foolish I was in passing this by. The characters of Gideon and Harriet have become far my favourite, and I love how open and contradicting Harriet is. Ironically her naivety, ends up being her wisdom, and I love how she sees beyond what others have regarding Gideon. There is a couple of times in this book I chuckle because of Harriet's behaviour and Gideon's to it, and it's a story I can read over again and again.

I don't know why I'm bothering to write a review. There are so many already written. But having re-read this book for the fourth time, I just wanted to say if you want to read one of Amanda Quick's best, in my opinion, this would be it. Of course, she has a few others with nearly identical H/h types but I never get tired of the big, masculine, alpha males and the sweet, little bluestocking type heroines.

In this book, our hero has been severely wounded both physically and in his soul. He's been an outcast from Society and his family. When he meets up with our little heroine, she sneaks through his hard crusty outer shell and into his heart. Thankfully, something inside him recognizes she's a safe haven. He will never be the same. Sweet, sweet romance.

I don't know what I was expecting from this book but it was not this– it was the first Amanda Quick I had read ( I have read many more since). It is a lot of fun. I enjoyed the unconventional characters . The heroine is delightfully unbeautiful and eccentric, happier exploring slimy caves looking for dinosaur bones a than enjoying fashion and the social whirl. The hero is wonderfully grumpy and brooding, a tortured soul whom no-one finds handsome, except, of course, the heroine. They are clearly meant for each other and there is a real chemistry between then and the story is nicely paced. There is plenty of good old fashioned romance here and a healthy dose of adventure. Highly recommended, a very satisfying read

Another one that I dust off and read periodically.
Plump spinster with her own interests and world view meets reclusive, scarred, and disgraced nobleman. But it's not boring or a trite as that sounds. It's actually quite lively and a good deal of fun, including a carriage chase, Bow Street Runners, thieves, and fossil hunters, and an attempted murder. The characters are great fun!
Anne Flosnik is not my favorite narrator. Reminds me of the hams from old radio shows.

This is a new author to me who is writes historical romances.

This story of Gideon and Harriet was like a Beauty and the Beast kind of story, which I really enjoyed. Harriet stood up for her man even when the world though he had no honour, without knowing his full story Harriet knew that Gideon was a man of honour.

I really enjoyed this story. I am looking forward to reading more from this author too.

I was bitterly disappointed by this book. It was supposedly set in the Regency era but the speech used bore no resemblance whatsoever to the language they would have used in this period. If you are after a 'lusty' book then this is for you. If, however you want a book which is true to the Regency period, then don't buy this! It is clearly a modern love story! I can only assume the author did LITTLE research for this book! Anyone with any knowledge of this period will be incensed by it! The more I read, the more angry I became! I can't even excuse her on the fact that she is American because there are endless books and the internet with vast amounts of information out there! Grrr!
