Remains a mainstay of "play" in our house
on 23 April 2015
I have never been a big fan of jigsaw puzzles, not as a child, nor as an adult, however as I approach 60 and still have a 14 year old at home (2015) who is not solely interested in the latest video game, cold and rainy days lend themselves really well to assembling a less than complex jigsaw puzzle. The 500 piece puzzles from Ravensburger are ideal in that regard; large enough to provide a challenge, but small enough to be completed relatively quickly and easily.
Like all jigsaws, they are cut from cardboard, but I have to say that both the quality of the cardboard and the cut itself are excellent, no fraying and the pieces fit together with very little seam. At the price and the quality, they represent good value, more importantly, we can all participate as a family, or for the casual "player" just inserting the odd piece.
Perhaps the most important thing is that jigsaws like this are something that we share, whether it be my son labouring away to complete the bulk of it, my interference or my wife's uncanny ability to spot the errant piece when she delivers a drink and a piece of cake. Oh yes, one last thing, it doesn't involve a screen, screeching noise and has a sense of fulfilment as the last piece is slotted in.
