Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

This is a giant floor puzzle measuring 70 x 50cm, which is perfect for young children aged 3 and up. The puzzle has 60 chunky puzzle pieces which are easy for little hands to hold and piece together. Founded in 1883, Ravensburger remains a family owned business specializing in the development and manufacture of puzzles and games. All our cardboard jigsaw puzzles are made in our own factories to our own exacting standards, and much of our range is designed especially for the British market by our Oxfordshire-based development team. We actively support the work of British artists and photographers, and many puzzles feature specially commissioned paintings and individually designed packaging. In addition, because we have sister companies all over the world, we can offer you pictures from other countries too – making ours the broadest range of puzzle images you’ll find. All Ravensburger Puzzles are easily identified by our “blue triangle” logo.

I bought this for a five year old who I was hoping (I'd better be honest about this) would find it so difficult that she would need help, thereby giving me all the excuse that I needed to shove her out of the way and well and truly take over. No such luck though, I'm afraid. Don't worry, I'm thoroughly ashamed of myself.

This jigsaw has the ability to immediately engage a youngster's interest. It is well-constructed and the pieces are very easy to manoeuvre. Not that I was allowed to touch any of them of course, but I managed to deduce all that from my little relative's speedy solo construction of the thing. I did offer my services (stamping my feet and having a tantrum counts, right?) but it was no good. She told me she didn't need my help and that if I didn't stop sulking in the corner and scowling at her she was going to tell her mum. I wasn't going to stand for that - I told her mum she was picking on me and not sharing this puzzle. Her mum just hit me over the head with the lid of the box.

Had I been able to get my little friend's attention (a difficult thing to do anyway when you're sitting in disgrace like I was on the naughty step), I would have chatted with her about the various symbols and pictures contained within this jigsaw. I may not have been talking for very long mind you, because some of the geographical features shown on this map are a complete mystery to me. 'Sweetheart Abbey', is the first one that springs to mind from that particular dip into my own ignorance, although there were quite a few others. However, the jigsaw does give you a real feel for just how diverse the British Isles are in terms of their agriculture, wildlife, history and architecture.

I bought this for a nephew who was five years old because his Mum thought he'd like a map jigsaw to begin to learn about Britain. It is bright and fairly durable, and suits his age and ability.Provides lots of opportunity for discussion, and I would say it needs the input of an interested adult for the child to get the most out of it. (I bought it along with a globe of the world which showed the animals of various countries, and I think this was a bit more fun!)There is lots to look at on the map jigsaw, and I think it is one which a child could enjoy many times over. Good value for money.

I bought this jigsaw for a German family who visit us in uk and also holiday here. Children 5 - 10yrs. Seemed a good way to let them recall their travels. Also bought one for home so that visiting grandchildren and others can do it. Over new year I did it with 11yr old who enjoyed it and then we enjoyed discussing where places were that she knows. Would think it needs to have input from keen adult/older children to get best out of it.
