A neat case, easy to put together. It comes already in the right order so if you are careful adding the Pi is easy.
Now the Fan
Also easy to fit. Goes inside the case and cools the pi 2 operating at 100% to 38-40 degC.
However soon the fan started to go into a high vibration low speed noisy mode. Not good.
Stopping the fan with my finger and letting it go cured the problem sometimes and I suspected the bearing.
Having fitted all three heat sinks (just be careful to position them carefully before you contact the chips because you don't get a second chance) I didn't want to return everything so I investigated fixing the fan.
I peeled the label off very carefully because it needs to be put back as it's the only thing keeping dirt out of the bearing. I sprayed some WD40 into a cup NOT into the fan and used a cocktail stick to transfer two drops into the bearing, stuck the label back on and powered up. CURED!
It is now cooling to a couple of degrees lower.
So 4 stars because I like the case, it fits everything and looks cool but not 5 stars on account of the fan.
It is now 23/01/2018 and the fan won't work properly at all.
I have only reduced the rating to 3 stars because the case itself is nice.
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement fan?
24/01/2018 I have now used car engine oil, seems to be working fingers crossed.
I have bought two replacement fans for £2.50 from ebay.
7/2/2018 Fan still working ok. Because the engine oil is thicker the fan is only cooling to 48 deg where before it cooled to 39 deg.
Will keep it for now but if it goes wrong again I will swap it for one of my replacement fans
Just to be clear the pi3 is working at 100% all 4 cores 24/7
Fan finally died. Replaced. Fingers crossed
Because my replacement fan was so cheap leaving rating at 3 stars cost any more it would have gone down to 2 stars
