HASH(0x8f4df66c) out of 5 stars Just okay 16 Nov. 2014

The book is quality but the content is not what I expected. It has minimal text, essentially naming the members of one particular gang in Port Moresby at the beginning of the book, then posed portrait photos in black & white, and a final blurb of text giving some updates on the men's current status.
I'd expected a book detailing the gangs (multiple) of New Guinea (various major cities) and perhaps some discussion of why the members had joined, how they operate, what makes them different than gamgs in the West. Nope, none of that. Similarly no action shots or philosophical discussion. Just portrait photos of guys standing in a dilapidated building and holding their homemade pistols. Artistic? Perhaps. Informative? Not so much.
HASH(0x8e4b6a98) out of 5 stars very intersting 28 April 2013

This book is worthy because of the subjects and their backgrounds. Personally I am not a fan of the paper used for printing but the design and images are good. The use of the special film (polaroid) makes the portraits even more 'dark'. Very moody shots and great vibe throughout the whole book. It would have been nice to see it printed in a bigger size though.

Great book from one of the best photographers shooting today. Duponts work continues to enrich and amaze, another beautiful book to add to his mounting folio.
