Bethan Woollvin brings her imaginative flair to another traditional tale, creating a feisty, independent heroine in a landscape free from heroic princes! (BookTrust)
[Praise for Little Red:] Bethan Woollvin's version [of Little Red Riding Hood] has a far darker ending - and I loved it. The talented illustrator and writer has taken a childhood niggle as her premise for this bold feminist version of the story: would our caped heroine really have been taken in by a wolf in a bad grandma disguise? . . . I won't spoil the ending but let's just say Little Red wraps it up nicely (and warmly) and it has my three year old son thrilled at every read, begging for more. (The Times)
A talent to watch (Daily Mail)
Woollvin is a striking new talent with strong retro style illustrations and a simple, witty text. (Angels & Urchins)
Author-illustrator Bethan Woollvin returns to enthral picture-book fans with a retelling of Rapunzel (Two Hoots) in her characteristic, starkly beguiling graphic black and white. The contrasting waves of Rapunzel’s hair, in over-saturated buttery yellow, light up a heroine every bit as defiant, quick-witted and tough as Woollvin’s award-winning Little Red. (Guardian)

And we certainly aren't disappointed!
The old chestnut, 'Rapunzel', is dragged out of the middle ages and given the ever so slightly darkly humorous Woollvin treatment.
I've no doubt that children the world over will appreciate everything about this book: The twist in the story; the big and bold and inspiring illustrations hiding those little hidden gems of detail; the humour; the simple but clever use of colour and the beautifully playful retelling of the story.
I'll probably need to order a few more copies of Rapunzel in the morning because the children at school are going to wear this one out. But that's great...books are for loving and we're going to love this one!
I honestly don't know if kids get all that, but it would be fun to find out. And, a story about a brave, clever and resourceful little girl who can best a witch will always go down well. I'd be keen to run this by an adventurous little reader.
