Yet again, this is told as a kind of duet, with the two main characters telling the story each from their own perspective which gives a much broader view. I loved this story as much as the previous two. I think each could probably be read on their own but read in series they give a better overview of the history, culture and politics of this secret race.
The characters were, once again, very real, the story exciting and fast paced, the ending satisfying but leaving the situation open enough to, hopefully, allow for another instalment!

Rapture's Edge is the third storyline in J.T.Geissinger's paranormal Night Prowler series focusing on the men and women of the Ikati- a race of panther like shape shifters. This is Eliana and Demetrius's story.

At the end of book two -Edge of Oblivion-Eliana was on the run. Her father, unbeknownst to her, was a traitor to the Ikati people and her last image was of the man she once loved- Demetrius- holding a knife over the bloody body of her murdered father. Fast forward three years and Eliana is now a strong, independent woman and an international art thief. Trained for battle, Eliana will find herself on the receiving end of a take down that will see a death sentence for betrayal and crimes against the Ikati. Iliana is presumed guilty by association-she is her father's daughter. Only Iliana is not aware of her father's treason and her brother's future plans.

Enter Demetrius-Demetrius has been searching for the woman that he loves for three years. She is of the mistaken belief that he murdered her father-a man who has betrayed the Ikati-murdering and persecuting innocent humans and hybrids for years. Demetrius only knows one thing-he needs to find Iliana; his mind, his heart and his soul demand that he finds his mate before he takes out everyone within his reach.

The storyline is slow to build as J.T. jumps between Iliana and Demetrius's backstory and current situations-which are detailed and necessary to the plot. The reader is introduced to Iliana's new family of underground runners hoping to establish a new colony of those who have been unhappy with the current Ikati controlling powers. Let us hope there are a few storylines among her friends.

The first thing that struck me about this book, and I will admit it was something I liked, was that the author did not have to resort to coarse language when referring to male and female body parts. That was refreshing. I had not read any of this author's books before, so was open minded. The sex scenes are not prudish, which to me, is the sign of a good writer: that there is no need to be coarse to paint the picture.

The two main characters of Eliana and Demetrius are fun. Eliana is spunky, despite having been brought up in a patriarchal society where she is viewed as a second-class citizen. Demetrius is all man (well, shifter), complete with shaved head, tattoos and body piercings. Makes a refreshing change from the visions of male perfection that you normally have in paranormal romances.

Yes, they had a past, but from Eliana's perspective, seeing the man for whom she was having feelings, standing over her father's body with a gun, was a bit damning. That it turned out to be a kill or be killed situation was not something she realised. I did like the way that she didn't fall into Demetrius' arms half way through the book, swearing her undying love. Yes, she loves him, but is she prepared to trust him?

Characters from earlier books make an appearance e.g. Leander and Jenna from the first book.

Overall, I would say that I enjoyed it enough that I will be buying the first book in the series for comparison.

Eliana was on the verge of falling in love with Demetrius until the day she found him standing over her father's dead body holding a gun and fled her colony in Rome with a small group of followers before he could come after her too. They have spent the last 3 years hiding in the catacombs in Paris and Eliana has been forced to take extreme measures to make sure they have enough money not just to survive but also to plot their revenge. What she doesn't realise is that Demetrius is innocent, he wasn't the one who killed her father and the betrayal actually came from much closer to home. In fact nothing is what she thought it was, her father wasn't the kind and benevolent king she knew him as and her enemies actually followed her to Paris. Demetrius has been looking for Eliana ever since she disappears but when he finally tracks her down will he be able to convince her of his innocence and help her uncover what is really going on within her group? Can Eliana put the pain from the past to one side long enough to actually listen to him?

I have been a huge fan of this series from the first book and I'm happy to confirm that the books just get better and better with every instalment. I have it on good authority from a friend of mine that this book can be read even if you haven't read the previous books but I would still personally recommend reading the series in order. Although each book focuses on a different couple there is a complex ongoing plot that threads throughout all of the stories and I think you will get more out of it if you read the books in the order they were written. This is a fantastic series though and one I'd highly recommend to anyone who likes their paranormal romance fast paced, packed with action and full of fabulous characters.
