This book is an excellent learning tool for the MRCP Part 2 Writtem exam. Although the questions are slightly more difficult than those in the actual exam, and some of them are formatted differently than the "Best of Five" or "n from many" you can expect to see in the exam, they have excellent explanations and cover a good variety of topics. The guidelines used are up-to-date and well outlined, with references to key studies used in the formulations of the guidelines for you to study further if you wish. My only slight complaint is that questions are not organised into subject areas, although this is a bonus in some ways as you cover a variety of topics in a single sitting, but it does make revision of specific subjects more difficult. Ideally you need to start revising from this book about a month to a month-and-a-half before the actual exam as there are a lot of questions to get through, but the reward is well worth the effort!

The 1st edition of this book was an instant best-seller. It comprised 150 short answer questions with detailed answers and stunning visuals.

The second edition has more than doubled in volume and most of the cases have been converted to the 'best of 5 format'.

Unfortunately the quality of the actual 'best of five' questions themselves does not really reflect the complexity of the real exam. Perhaps too many of the questions are 'barn door' cases which are most helpful for when starting out your part 2 revision joruney.

The questions are there more to facilitate the descriptions of the cases rather than test the reasoning power of the candidate.

This book differs significantly from other part 2 texts with its inclusion of many 'acute medicine' cases. I feel these are particularly helpful as they cover the standard acute medicine guidelines which are tested in the real exam.

Overall i found the book slightly laborious but it was still an imprtant part of my revision - and i passed!

I am very impressed by this amazing book. It presents most of the acute medical cases in a detailed but clear format, supporting most, if not all, the answers with recent studies results and guidelines. Things that I couldn't find in classic text books and would take a lot of time to collect it from different resources of medical specialities.

The Data Interpretation Tutorials section is short but more than enough to actually feed the information into your brain.

Briefly, make sure to check this book out.

As the pace of change in medical guidelines and exam techniques accelerate, question books start to become irrelevant by the time they hit the shelves. Dozens of small questions books for the MRCP have been replaced by online question banks found in websites like onexamination and pastest.

This book is an exception. By not skimping on the explanations under each question, it remains relevant and useful regardless of the changes to the exam. It is written like a questions book, but should be read like a textbook. Read it repeatedly and focus your effort on those explanations.

The questions will keep you hooked up and entertained. They're like the horse of troy, a decoy designed to sneak in the heavy artillery of information into your attention and knowledge.

Even if you're not sitting the exam, this book will make you a better doctor. Hardly something that can be said about any other MRCP questions book.

Highly Recommended.

Very well presented book with good explanations, but a couple of answers weren't consistent with current guidelines. In spite of this the book is both a good source of questions for MRCP part 2, as well as a good revision text due to the quality of the answers.

and for medicine in general. i found the echo explanations especially useful. however, its not fully adapted for the new style exams - there are still questions in it which ask you to give lists rather then choose best of five. think this needs changing by the next edition.

It's definitely more interesting and dare I say fun revising for the Part 2 written than it is for the Part 1. This book is one of the most widely used texts for the Part 2 and is definitely worth the time. However, the questions are not in the BOF format which makes it a little difficult at times to find the 'take home message'. But the questions do get you thinking and you realise that even though we're now almost conditioned to find the right answer amongst the five options (and at times it might still be like finding a needle in a haystack), it's gratifying to find you know the answer if you think hard enough and logically. It encourages you to realise that perhaps you're not totally hopeless when starting out with revision.
