Format: Hardcover
I, like most Rangers fans am fascinated by and very proud of the long and illustrious history of the club.

As soon as this book came out i bought it, because aside from the 1980's rather dated effort Rangers:An Illustrated history by Stephen Halliday, there wasn't a full and complete history of the Rangers available out there. This promised to deliver that but sadly i was very disappointed. The illustrations are excellent and there are some nice subsections here and there but the problem with this book is the manner in which it has been written. It is just so incredibly dull. Its almost a drone, a dirge, like a fly buzzing around your ear you just can't swat! This style of writing very quickly gets dull and irritating.
There are few (if any) opinions, players or managers opinions, anecdotes or stories to enliven the text and interrupt the almost incessant dull slog through the decades. Imagine 138 years of this kind of thing...."on the saturday Rangers travelled to Tannadice and a late Davie Wilson equalizer earned the light blues a point. Next Rangers played host to Dunfermline, winning 3-0 in front of 38,576 at Ibrox. The following Wednesday Rangers gained another 3 points when goals from Baxter Greig and Provan defeated Aberdeen". etc etc. This type of prose is just so dry and dull, it became a real chore and i eventually gave up and just skim read it after a while, taking more interest in the pictures than the dull as ditchwater prose.
I really wouldn't recommend this book to Rangers fans, If its the history of the club you want then go for Stephen Halliday's excellent 'The essential history of Rangers' instead.
