Alison’s insightful book has helped me understand exactly what young girls are having to deal with in order to try to lead balanced lived in this media driven world. This insight is invaluable to me when teaching my courses and helps me bridge the vast age gap. Additionally, I have 2 grandsons but 5 granddaughters, the eldest fast approaching those challenging times.
Alison has shared her experiences in an open and honest manner typical of her direct approach to life. The girls in her life are lucky to have a mum who cares enough to share her insights in to the tricky world of the teenager. Alison has not shied away discussing any subject often ending up as the perplexed mum staring out of the window wondering what the hell is going on with her family.
Her aim is laudable. She wants her daughters to be brave and principled. Confident in their ability to contribute to making our fragile society work. But her desire to share experiences widely exposing her own fragility is brave and principled. Her daughters, including her adopted family, must have given her much love and support in order to permit her to pen her insights so this is a family book, for families and about families.
Don’t be put off by the title which appears to be gender orientated. I recommend that this little gem be widely read by all of us concerned in helping the future of our society to fulfil their full potential.
