I really enjoyed this book. Nicely written, some social commentary, easy to understand and gets to the point quickly. If you feel that your girls are out of place in this material world and feel that your values are out of sync with living in the uber parenting noughties then this is the book for you. (Note to pushy parents - it may not be alpha enough for you guys but you could do with reading this book! Really, you could.) If nothing else...to all parents who need it - it makes you feel that you are doing ok. It should be re-titled "Raising Confident Girls (and their Mothers!)" *****

I have three adorable daughters, all with differnet characters. This book helps you understand more substanstial their needs and reactions. It also helps u put limits with no guilt, find fun ways to be close to them and above all it shows you how to be a friend, a teacher, a parent in a fun loveble away.

This book is great. I have really enjoyed reading it and putting into practice some of the ideas. My relationship has improved with my daughter of 8 years and I'm looking forward to the future as she grows along with our relationship. I will keep it next to my bed as I will continue to revisit it. Well worth the read.

Format: Paperback
This book mixes a lot of basic common sense that nobody can argue with, with some very conservative values that aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea, and it's not up front about its intentions. Its bibliography is a bit more revealing, citing the likes of Dr Laura Schlessinger, and it slips in little commandments about not tolerating teenage sex and so forth. If you're worried about making sure your daughter stays pure and good in a world of material temptation, you might like this book; if you want her to grow into full person capable of making her own independent decisions in the 21st century, maybe not. There are plenty of other books out there with the common sense minus the sermon.

Like all books advising you on child rearing / care you will read into it what you will! I enjoy this book and it helps me focus my mind onto my daughters personality. My husband has said it has helped him think about what he wants the 'end product' to look like
