1. The writing (or maybe it's the translation?)- is not very good - frequent unnecessary repetition - "Rainbow fish swam down and down and down (and down...)"; they looked and looked and looked...(did they look some more? - wonderful!); At least half the pages in the book begin with the line "Rainbow fish... and the firefly squid"
2. Speaking of the firefly squid - there are a lot of very random creatures in this book. There is a page about the poisonous tendrils of a "siphonophore" - I really have no idea what this is or what place it has a childrens book. "Daddy, what's a siphnononfore?" "I am truly bamboozled son. That's what they invented Wikipedia for."
3. My favourite random creature is the bilious dumbo octopus. There is one page where the octopus rather charmingly gives rainbow fish a new shiny coat by projectile vomiting all over him. His rather unconvincing response? "its beautiful truly". Guaranteed to freak you out.
Anyway, I'm glad I've got that off my chest. Happy reading.

I particularly like this book as it has a lot of glittery bits which children will enjoy.Published 13 months ago by Amazon Customer
