This fictional love story is set around an actual historical railway accident which occurred on Bank Holiday Monday in August 1858. Despite the accident being an epic tragedy, Nancy cleverly introduces some rather comic scenes involving Black Country humour that had me chuckling, so it’s not a dark story at all, but very entertaining. It's obviously well researched, too. I thoroughly recommend The Railway Girl to all readers of sagas and romance, and give it the 5 stars it deserves.
