I bought this book a couple of years ago and it was well worth the money. The patterns for all the sizes of dolls, their clothing and hair designs are all at the correct size. You just have to trace them off and get sewing. The instructions for each doll and the assembling of the clothing is extremely clear and step by step. There are a good range of dolls to make, both boys and girls.
I have made 2 of the dolls and they both turned out looking exactly like the pictures in the book. I am a total novice and found the instructions very easy to follow. I will be making more.

I highly recommend this book

If you only buy one book to help you make attractive child friendly rag dolls, choose this one! Full size patterns to trace off, clear instructions and ring bound to lie flat.

Ch 1 - materials and techniques

Ch 2 - The small rag doll. This includes in structions for clown, bridesmaid, flower fairy, footballer, guardsman and Hansel and Gretel.

Ch 3 - The medium rag doll. Includes Bride, Prince Charming, Sultan, Arabian princess, Victorian bather and Medieval rag dolls

Ch 4 - The large rag doll will fit clothes for a 12 to 18 month baby, so is a great way to use a treasured piece of clothing.

Ch 5 - The Topsy- Turvy doll

Ch 6 - The child sized doll ... the size of 2 year old child!

The features are embroidered on all the dolls and plenty of ideas are given for variation in theme, dress and expression.

Not a hugely elaborate book - looks a bit like a children's book really. But not many books on this subject so it'll do for now.

This is an okay book, but not many patterns. Creative, but mostly character dolls, like a topsy-turvy doll of Cinderella before and after the fairy godmother visits, or Sleeping Beauty awake and asleep. A half-inch thick book even with the thick hard cover. Good costuming ideas, but not interesting or "pretty" faces. If I had paid $35 for it, I'd be returning it. Check out "Cloth Dolls," or "Dolls and Toys from A to Z: From McCall's Needlework and Crafts," both of which I have reviewed.
