Radflek is the most efficient radiator reflector recommended under the UK’s Energy Saving Trust Recommended Product scheme and is revolutionary in its ease of installation. Radflek is one of the easiest and most cost effective methods of energy saving in the home - at least 23% more efficient than louvered or saw toothed radiator reflector panels and quicker and easier to install. Radflek reflects back into the room 95% of the energy radiated from the back of the radiator and cuts heat loss through the wall and into the outside world by 45%. This means that less energy is used to heat the room to the desired temperature, resulting in lower energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint. Radflek will typically pay for itself in under a year. Radflek is a laminated aluminium reflective membrane with a long lasting coating that prevents oxidation and preserves its high reflectivity for at least 60 years. This is unlike kitchen foil that tears easily and degrades very quickly. There is no need for removal of radiators, professional installers, or any sticking to the wall – Radflek is cut to size with normal kitchen scissors and just hangs from the wall brackets behind the radiator, so disappearing from view once installed. Installation is quick and simple, only taking minutes. Radflek is also the most efficient radiator reflector approved by Ofgem (The UK’s energy industry regulator) for its Carbon Emissions Reduction Target scheme (CERT). A sheet of Radflek will save an average of 8.9 kg CO2 and up to 83 kWh of energy per year. Each sheet of Radflek is 120cm x 60cm and sufficient for 2 typical sized radiators each measuring 60cm between the wall brackets. Pack sizes act as a guide only and are on the basis of such a typical radiator. All packs contain Radflek sheets, clips and instructions - everything required for a standard installation of Radflek (behind a typical wall mounted radiator). Where the distance between the radiator wall brackets is greater than 120cm, Radstik reflective adhesive tape can be used to increase the size of a Radflek sheet. Radstik can also be used to combine off cuts. For floor mounted or where brackets are far from the top and/or the edge of the radiator, we recommend alternative installation methods set out in the 'easy fitting' section of www.radflek.com You should measure your radiators prior to purchase to ensure you buy the correct pack size.

Installation is very simple - you simply cut the foil along the nearest preprinted guideline, cuff the top of the sheet, slide on the plastic slide/holder and drop into place behind your radiator. Yes, it is that simple. A couple observations; as reflected in other reviews the sizing assumptions are quite conservative e.g. a ten radiator pack fits ten very small radiators. Also, if like me you have a number of long in width but low height radiators you are likely to need a few more of the plastic slide on holders otherwise the foil will buckle in the middle. This isn't a problem as the plastic holders are very cheap and can be bought without the foil from Radflek.
Additionally, one of the many packs I have ordered was mislaid in the post - I sent an e-mail to Radflek via Amazon on a Sunday afternoon and it was answered within 15 minutes! I get the impression Radflek is a very passionate company. Their passion is justified as few things this inexpensive yield such an advantage. When I sit near the radiator in my study which is fitted with Radflek foil the room is significantly warmer, and, I believe, you can feel that more heat is reflected back from the radiator into the room. As a result of my satisfaction with this product I am fitting it to my parents house which is significantly bigger than my own and therefore should yield even more advantage.
Finally, if the pennies are tight, even if you can only afford to put Radflek on the radiators flanking the outer walls of your home it is well worth it.
In summary, very effective, and, in these times there won't be many investments that give you as good a yield as Radflek radiator foil! Recommended.
As for fitting the panels: I have relatively small radiators so was able to add reflector panels to all nine of them and still had some 30 cm left over. I used 3 of the 12 clips provided (the bits of plastic used to balance the panels on the wall mountings at the rear of the radiators)for the largest radiator, but with judicious cutting of the other clips I managed to complete all my radiators and I even had most of one clip left over too.
These clips are a great idea: There's no fiddling with double sided tape or other fixings, so they're easy to lift out, dust and put back when required.
The panels themselves appear to be like a thick gauge foil, so are easy to straighten the folds out with a thumb and then cut to size. The instructions say they don't have to be perfectly flat to do the job.
As it's August I am unable to report how effective they may be. I'll have to wait for a few months before I can do that, but the principle is sound: Heat is reflected back into the room, not out through the walls.
The enclosed blurb states that for uninsulated walls the carbon footprint is reduced by an average of 18.2 kg of CO2 a year per m2. For an insulated wall that drops to an average of 12.33 kg but that's still going to save some pennies on fuel bills, I reckon.Read more ›

Before fitting I tried to measure the speed my living room took to get to set temperature without reflectors. Starting at 11.5C it took three hours. After reflectors fitted it took two hours. Not as definitive as it may seem. Without reflectors the temperature had only just gone to 11.5C, but with the reflectors it was a steady 11.5 for a while. Having said that my living room does feel as though its heating up quicker, especially in the second hour of heating. I just wish I could feel behind my radiators to remove any doubt.
As you can see from my video I have fitted the reflectors not as per instructions. I did not use any plastic strips, preferring to pin the thick foil to the wall. I think you can get a good idea of how many radiators a pack of three sheets can do in my video. I did three but I was concentrating on being able to do two from edge to edge.
In summary I think your radiator design is crucial to your decision to buy or not. Putting a black-out blind above your radiator, if it is fitted beneath a window, also dramatically increases the speed at which the room gets warmer. In fact a black-out blind is far more useful and cost effective than the reflector behind the radiator in this case.Read more ›
