This isn't my favourite Rachmaninov Piano Concerto and it certainly isn't as well-known or popular as nos. 1 to 3 (hence the four-star rating). However, Valentina's virtuosity is very evident yet again and she's very ably assisted once more by the LSO in a technically excellent recording. Gosh, this young woman has certainly been hiding her light under a bushel all these years - every recording demonstrates how good she really is and she must surely be ranked in the higher echelons of world-class pianists.
I very much look forward to hearing future recordings from Valentina - others must also think so too, as Decca appear to be cashing in on her growing popularity by steadily increasing prices..........!

The performances are excellent. The recorded sound is very good too. Unlike many performances of these concertos, the piano comes clearly through the orchestra. Every note being audible. Bravo Valentina!
