It's rather disappointing to read how the Brits, not for the first time, were left behind in the race to grab as much of the German technology before it was lost to wherever. In the event, the Americans and then the Russians stepped in and cleared most of it, leaving just enough for the British for it to be counted as small change. It seems par for the course that when it comes to taking a bold step, we lack the will politically to do just that.

Still, this is a fascinating story. There are quite a few books on the 'what might have beens' in terms of German aviation and similar ones which show just what the Americans achieved with German help both in aircraft and rocket design and propulsion. This, though, is told from the British perspective and well worth a read for any aspiring aviation buff unaware perhaps of how far the Germans were advancing in such technology.

An interesting account centered around the somewhat maverick character of Sir Roy Fedden, one of the foremost engineers the UK produced in the first half of the 20th century. Shows how the Americans plundered the German research on an almost industrial scale and the British attempted to do the same but on a shoestring. Also a good reference book for many German projects, with all the information gathered in a common format in one book.

A good beginning to the UK's grab of German high tech hardware. I'm still surprised by the UK's conceited & imagined superiority that its technology led the world in WW2.
