I don't know what the other reviewers beef is with this classic cartoon and I don't care for that negative tone. What I do care about is getting to know the characters, enjoying the animation, the presentation of the stories, knowing that I've spent good money on nostalgia, the representation of real life through the art of the cartoon. This is what classic entertainment such as The Raccoons is all about; Friendships lost and regained, moral tales of material gain through greed versus real wealth such as health and the happiness of your friends and family. You cannot help but watch this complete series and know that the team, including all of the animators musicians and voice-over artists really enjoyed putting this product together. As a fan my favourite moments are when the Greedy Cyril Sneer spits out the endless insults to the pigs in his employ. Those 1-liners are worth box sets 1 and 2 alone. I grew up with The Raccoons and would put this complete box set alongside Dangermouse, Inspector Gadget and The Smurfs. Now it's time to share that joy with some other child, but be warned, you may enjoy it more than them. 5 stars - I like it.

The most memorable part of The Raccoons for most people is the pink aarvark character Cyril Sneer, a ruthless, yet likeable tycoon who seems bent on exploiting the Evergreen Forest for financial gain. There's also the mischievious, loyal and accident prone Bert Raccoon.
The animation can seem, in retrospect, archaic and crude: for some this is quaint, of course. The plotlines can seem slightly banal (though admittedly it is a children's programme, which allows room for simplicity). And one episode of the season has been removed from this volume, which is presumably representative of season 1.
Overall: I would recommend this for children only. The theme tune at the end is very catchy: a great song 'Run With Us'. But I found it hard to watch two episodes consecutively.

The Gemini Award-winning tv series has long stood proudly as an incredible achievement in Canadian cartooning, and now it has finally been brought to DVD! Bert Raccoon's adventures in the Evergreen forest are an endless stream of excitement the whole family will enjoy as much today as it did years ago. This boxed set consists of The Raccoons Discs #1-3, containing a total of nine (9) fun-filled and heart-warming episodes from the 1987 season:
Disc 1- Double Play; The Sweet Smell of Success; Blast from the Past.
Disc 2- Power Trip; The Artful Dodger; Last Legs.
Disc 3- Read No Evil; Courting Disaster; Time Trap.
Special features include cast bios, never-before-scene artwork and the ability to create one's own scenes using the special DVD-ROM features on your computer. A great collection worthy of any family or animation fan's DVD library!

Okay picture quality and sound. Crappy Box and Cover Art. And only 3 episodes per disc! (uh huh, a box set with 9 episodes!)
But the Raccoons are great fun, definately a set to buy if you are a fan!

HASH(0x98585534) out of 5 stars My childhood memories are back!!!! 18 Jun. 2005

Despite not watching the Raccoon's series, I do agree that if my dad was to get me this DVD, I would find out how good it was. I did watch Episodes 11,12,24,35 & 54 of the series and I saw 'The Raccoons on Ice' and 'The Lost Star' specials, which were brilliant. THAT THEME SONG!!!! (Spray: Run With Us) is the best thing. OK, so people want violence, blood and really idiotic* programmes these days, but that Bert Raccoon, hilarious, I mean, his voice sounds dreadful and all cold-like, but I love it when he says 'Hang on, Broo, hang on!!!' in 'The Sweet Smell of Success'. Too bad it was cancelled in January of last year. If I lived in Russia, I would be happy. But, the negatives of the programme are: Cyril Sneer is oh-so soft in the series, but he was like an evil villain in the series. Heck, he even nearly destroyed Earth. Also, Bentley complains so much I could rip his heart out! Anyway, please put the Raccoons back on TV, I beg of you!!!!
*On my opinion, not Bentley's dead body
HASH(0x985b7c60) out of 5 stars The Racoons 30 Jan. 2011

`Racoons' is a blast from the past and makes for perfect viewing. From that catchy opening music you're transported back to your childhood and the endearing characters and fun stories are soon delighting you again. This cartoon had a certain innocence about it that seems to be lacking in modern cartoons and I'd prefer to watch this over anything around today. The animation is pretty great and there is a subtle ecological theme that runs through the series. The racoons are fighting the capitalist might of Ceril Sneer and his attempts to spoil Evergreen Forest in the name of profit. I know that I watch this through rose tinted glasses as I loved this so much when I was a kid, but I honestly think this holds it's own and make for wonderful viewing whatever your age. This is well worth a try and roll on the next series'
