I found this to have a tad more emotional depth than the average book in this genre. It certainly isn't flawless: the Ella story feels very much like an add-on, and there are extensive flashbacks that feel a little clumsy. The ending feels particularly filmic and reminiscent of TV/films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, This Life etc.
But for all its small failings, this is an engaging read. Perfect for when you need to switch off from the real world with a bit of romantic escapism.
The main character Anna was a cringe, moping about over a lost love for 10 years. Yet we are supposed to like her even when she rocks up to her ex's wedding looking for closure... Yeah right...and why does everyone love Toby? I mean why is he irresistible to 3 of the main female characters? And to string someone along for 7 years is just rude but to let yourself be strung along when you know 'something isn't right' is even worse!!!!
Clare starts off great but turns into her (rather rubbish) mate Anna, letting a man dictate her life and the life of another.
Ella is portrayed as an evil bitch so the author makes the worst thing imaginable happen to her which is both cruel and insensitive to such a delicate subject.
Don't start me on Jasper....
It's just all so unbelievable but of course convenient that all characters (regardless of their behaviour) get their happy ending.
