George Romney Limited was established in 1918 as a sweet wholesaler by Mr Sam t. Clarke. At the height of one summer season he was unable to obtain supplies of Kendal Mint Cake so he purchased an old recipe and started his own manufacturing business.
His first factory was in Leighton's Yard, Highgate (Kendal). This was later moved to the Waterside Works and then to a purpose built factory on Mintsfleet Industrial Estate where it remains to this day. It has remained a small family run business and now with the fourth generation of the founder's family.
Romney's produces about 150 tonnes of Mint Cake each year. As well as its own varieties, it also continues to manufacture the original Wiper's brand of Mint Cake.
The recipe and the production of Kendal Mint Cake has changed very little over the years, the Mint Cake is still being stirred by hand in the original copper pans.
Romney's Kendal Mint Cake was the first Mint Cake to be successfully carried to the top of Mount Everest on 29th May, 1953. This was the first successful expedition to the summit. Sir Edmund Hilary and Sherpa Tensing Norgay ate this Mint Cake on top of Mount Everest as they gazed at the countryside far below them. A member of the successful Everest Expedition wrote: "It was easily the most popular item on our high altitude ration - our only criticism was that we did not have enough of it."

I bought the 6 pack as this proves to be good value for money and the exp date is 12mths+. I can also recommend the seller (The Sweet Pot) as the delivery was quick and everything was well packaged and arrived in one piece!
And another plus point is it comes already broken into squares, though i think its more to do with the packaging than the staff at the warehouse helping you out ;-)
I tried this at work one time and fell in love with it, this is really minty and very addictive just like Polos or XXX mints. If you like them you will love this, it gives mint flavour a new dimension, suck on a block and it will bring a smile to your face : )
