This book is excellent.
It is a useful reference book for a complete beginner, and the more experienced gardener.
It is superbly illustrated with step-by -step photographs and packed full of useful tips and best varieties etc.
This is THE book I would recommend to the novice and the more experienced.
It sits on My dresser and is in constant use.

a great book if you are a beginner to small veg growing.
Lots of stuff like how to prep the ground, what to plant and when, some suggested plantings for different households.

I particularly like the suggested varieties for each veg so you pick what you like and not what the writer thinks you should be growing.

It doesn't assume you know what they are talking about and explains stuff simply and in a practical manner.

a very good, sensible, reasonable book

We have the e version, this book was bought for a friends daughter aged 13, she has her own allotment. Apparently she was highly delighted with the book, quite rightly so. The book has an easy to follow guide with pictures and full of ideas to get her started for this year.

Having just acquired an allotment this book as been a great support for me as a novice allotmenteer. Simple explanations, plenty of clear diagrams, good pictures and excellent book signposting, all that I would expect from a DK book. The book has made me feel that I can grow anything very easily and so far I have had success with potatoes, radishes, beetroot, courgettes and pumpkins since late March. Buy it and get growing!

I am new to veg growing and have found this book an enjoyable read, very easy to follow with step by step instructions.
It sets out how to set up a small garden allotment or big. Every kind of veg and fruit you can think of. But most of all idiot prove
instructions and if I can grow something then you can. Great book.

Seems quite basic, even to a newbie like me. It does cover quite a lot of ground, but only tending to be in very brief detail, so it hasn't proved to be the reference bible I thought it could be (also surprised that it was quite a small book - thinking that other DK titles had been the big A4-ish size, whereas this is much squatter).
The sections on individual plants cover quite a lot, but seems that much is kind of repeated - eg. details on planting out, spacing etc. repeated in similar terms for many items.
So, not bad, but not the next step I was after. My previous read (over the last couple of years) had been the River Cottage Handbook which I felt covered most of what is here and I think I preferred the writing style of that - all those RC handbooks give a real buzz & enthusiasm which I didn't find here.

I love this book. I own several similar books, but as for now, this is my favorite because it is suited for anyone trying to set a small garden in their balcony (which is my case). I really like the design and pictures!
