What is true wireless?
True or truly wireless is a term used to distinguish between earbuds without any external cables and other Bluetooth earbuds, earphones that may feature a neckband design for example.
Why use Bluetooth 5?
Bluetooth 5 offers greater connection speed, distance and bandwidth than previous generations of Bluetooth. Although this doesn’t impact audio quality directly, it does allow for greater connection strength and consistency in most environments.

1) Everybody I've spoken to has started complaining about awful amounts of background noise on calls to the point I can't use them for making/receiving calls.
2) Bluetooth dropouts are becoming a regular event if I put my phone in my left trouser pocket OR in a crowded environment (like my morning commute)
3) Pausing music they make a disconnecting/reconnecting noise every few seconds. Which is really annoying if (as I'm doing right now) you've paused your music to concentrate; or more mundane if you've taken one earbud out to talk to someone/order a coffee you've now got the other earbud continually beeping in your ear... it essentially means you can't use them as passive noise isolation and have to take both ear buds out to do anything.
I’ll start by saying I’ve owned the Jabra Elite Sport and have tried the Jaybirds and AirPods.
To my untrained ear the sound quality is great, not audiophile but a step ahead of other true-wireless earbuds (probably on par with similarly priced wired Jaybirds); the sound is crisp with reasonable bass.
Personally I’ve not had any lag issues watching video, the battery life is great and the rubberised case has a premium feel. Once you’ve played with the included earbuds the fit well. It’s a really nice touch that RHA provide extras for when you inadvertently lose one in a bag that day you don’t stick them in the case... you know you will. Running with them they feel nicely stuck, not quite as firm as the Jabra Elite Sport but good enough you don’t have to adjust them all the time to avoid that feeling they they are about to come clattering to the pavement.
What RHA haven’t thought through is the user interface, which is badly thought out for both music playback and calls. For example if you are making a call one click is to hang up, two clicks is to turn the volume down (e for volume up), which gives you a fairly high probability of hanging up on someone when you want to change the volume. Especially true as volume only goes up or down by one notch, meaning if the call is too loud you have to double-click, wait, repeat several times (with maybe a 1/5 chance of hanging up each time). Problems are similar when controlling music.
RHA if you are reading this, a firmware release is required to sort the out. Or even better an app so we can chose our own button press combos. Do that and you’ve got the best wireless buds on the market.
I’ve left my previous comments below as they are great if you don’t want to use for phone calls.
Sound quality is excellent, especially for the size of the buds. Materials used and build quality is exceptional. Beat the Jabra 65ts in both departments. No passive mode though so have to take them out to hear announcement at a station for example.
Personally don’t find them as comfortable to wear as the Bose frees with fins but then these are much smaller and don’t stick out of your ear so worth the compromise for me. Went to the gym with them and no issues with them staying in.
Bluetooth range is excellent, had a couple of drop outs from the left earbud that lasted under a second but only used for 3 days so will update if this gets any worse.
I wish the buttons were a tap rather than a push because pushing drives them into your ear more which can be painful when doing a lot (3 successive pushes to turn the volume down). This is the same on the Jabra 65ts and the reason I didn’t buy them in the end.
I hope there will be an app added as this would be great for managing them as with most other earbuds. Would be good to adjust the sound output to taste.
To update on a couple of previous reviewer comments Battery life can be seen on the iPhone battery widget and switch devices can be done by holding the button for 5 seconds on either but would be better through an app!
5 stars as they are the best on the market at the time of release.
Now for my thoughts. I've had these a little over a week, I wanted to get rid of wires as they annoy me at work dangling about all the time. I've had Bose in ear headphones for the past year or so, and once these earphones had broken in THEY KNOCK THOSE OUT THE WATER. I'm no expert reviewer, nor an audiophile particularly, but the bass is punchy rather than rumbly (which I like), the mids are clear and involving and the highs are lovely and tactile - perhaps a little sharp with the silicone ear buds (I'd use the foam ones).
The build quality is lovely - especially the charger case, the aluminium casing is cold to the touch and the swivel-open mechanism is oddly satisfying. The rest is a matte-soft touch type plastic which feels nice. I'm a product designer so love a simple elegant design.
I've had no connectivity issues at all - once these hook up to the phone first time, they auto-connect in about 5 seconds. And I've had no cutouts to music.
Battery is good, I needed the best battery possible as I listen throughout the working day - they give about 5 hrs per charge and take about 20 mins to recharge in the box, which suits me fine.
So to be honest if you're looking for wireless earbuds and aren't a "badge snob" then I'd highly recommend. There's a reason most review websites sing this product's praise 🤷
