I live in a Victorian house and we have just spent thousands of pounds redecorading the house which involved replastering and skimming most of the walls. We have loft converstion and the second flight of stairs up to the loft has a switch at the bottom of the stairs and another switch at the top with both operating a ceiling light. Unfortunately after all the plastering and painting was finished we noticed the ceilng light (LED) kept blowing and needed replacing. After replacing the light for a third time our Electrician did some testing and concluded that the wire embedded in the wall from the switch at the bottom of the stairs was faulty leading to the light blowing.

No way was I going to have the faulty wire dug out of the newly plastered and painted wall!

The solution was to buy two of these switches plus a remote receiver ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005UKW8W8/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_7 ). The electrician disconnected the bottom switch and wired the top of the stairs switch to be a perminant connection. He then filled them in so the switches were gone. Fitting this is easy. The remote receiver is wiired to the celing light (very easy instuctions) and placed in the ceiling cavity above the ceiling light. The switches are then paired with the remote reveiver (again easy instuctions). The switches can be placed on any wall, anywhere as no wiring is required and they simply screw on to any flat wall surface (rawlplugs supplied). The switch is battery operated hence the paddle style to accomodate the battery (flat, round battery type).

Great solution!

I bought this switch to form part of a two switch remote control for a LED bulb in a bedroom. The LED was too small a load for even a LED compatible electronic remote control dimmer setup but the Home Easy light controller uses a mechanical relay switch that works very satisfactorily. Setting up the system was straightforward, both switches paired easily with the light-bulb unit and no reset has been required even when mains power has been cut off to the light-bulb unit.

I had to change the battery in one of the switches after only a few days and that switch is slightly slower to respond than the other but, as no one amazon supplier could provide both a switch and light-bulb unit kit and a spare switch, I cannot be sure of the origin of the slightly less satisfactory switch.

Overall the system is very satisfactory apart from a small doubt about its long term reliability.

First off, it works; that's the main thing. Umm... update 2 years later: it doesn't work any more.

Original impressions:
The "feel" is horribly cheap, with a very light thin plastic manufacture. There isn't a proper "click" feel as the light turns on or off. On my unit, "off" is fine, with a light touch at the top of the switch, but to turn it on you have to press fairly firmly on the bottom corner and hold it there for about a second. When taking it apart, e.g. to mount it in the first place and eventually when I have to change the battery, I was and am concerned that the flimsy little clips holding it together will simply snap. I wouldn't recommend buying it, except that I didn't find any reasonable alternatives out there. Such a pity that what ought to be a nice product is compromised by skimping on a few pennies' worth of plastic.

And then... after two years, I now find that it turns on but won't turn off. [Hint: if it happens to you, turn off at the circuit breaker -- when the unit is powered back on, the light is off by default.] I expect a light switch to last longer than that.

I ordered this product to replace a similar switch. I had ordered a new light fitting and needed a switch that was NOT a dimmer. Although I read the details it wasn't clear what type of switch it was. Unfortunatley this switch is a dimmer which is not suitable for most of the new light fittings on the market that take halogen/energy saving bulbs.

This switch along with the remote controlled ceiling switch got me out of a difficult situation.
A customer had a flat roof extension and the existing switch line was faulty.
I used these two parts to replace the existing switch.
Customer happy.

The first one I bought lasted about 4 months and was replaced by the supplier. Now that one's gone as well. The really annoying thing is that neither of them was used a lot. I won't be buying another

I am unsure what some of the other reviewers were doing to these switches as they work amazingly for us. We have loads of LED under-cabinet lighting retrofitted and we use these to turn them on and off. They work amazingly well and, so long as you push the switch up or down, will turn your items connected to your plugs off or on respectively.

The setup procedure takes 10 seconds and is very easy to do. Just read the instructions and away you go.

This was bought So I could add a second switch to an existing home easy setup I had installed previously. I wanted to be able to turn on (and off)my stair lights from both the top step a d the bottom step of my stairs.
I wasn't sure if it would be possible and was very pleased to find it works perfectly.
I simply paired this switch the already installed receiver and screwed it to the wall.
It works as intended and removed the need for any additional wiring at all.
